FLASHDANCE (1983)
MORGAN'S RATING
Adrian Lyne's appropriately flash tale of a struggling dancer who works as a steelworker to pay the bills fits perfectly into the soundtrack-driven era of big-budget 80s movies such as Top Gun. Driven by Giorgio Moroder's thumping, aerobicized soundtrack, the film is alternately hilariously overblown and totally compelling.
Jennifer Beals (Alex Owens), Michael Nouri (Nick Hurley), Lilia Skala (Hanna Long), Sunny Johnson (Jeanie Szabo), Kyle T. Heffner (Richie), Lee Ving (Johnny C.), Ron Karabatsos (Jake Mawby), Belinda Bauer (Katie Hurley), Malcolm Danare (Cecil), Philip Bruns (Frank Szabo), Micole Mercurio (Rosemary Szabo), Lucy Lee Flippin (Secretary), Don Brockett (Pete), Cynthia Rhodes (Tina Tech), Durga McBroom (Heels), Stacey Pickren (Margo), Liz Sagal (Sunny), Norman Scott (Normski), Marc Lemberger (Mr. Freeze), Wayne Frost (Frosty Freeze), Kenneth Gabbert (Prince Ken Smith), Richard Colon (Crazy Legs), Robert Wuhl (Mawby's Regular).
SOMETHING HAPPENS WHEN SHE HEARS THE MUSIC...IT'S HER FREEDOM. IT'S HER FIRE. IT'S HER LIFE.

Nick: When you let go of your dream, you die.
"How to turn a rock video into a feature film--with glitzy images, high energy, an arresting music score, and the stupidest story this side of Busby Berkeley. Still, this concoction was a smash." -- Leonard Maltin
