MORGAN'S RATING | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Car theft in Long Beach went down 47% when Randall "Memphis" Raines walked away from the life. He gets dragged back into it by assuming the job his brother Kip screwed up for stolen-car broker Raymond Callitri: steal 50 exotic cars and have them on a container ship by 8am Friday morning. Raines recieved this information on Monday morning. With Calitri threatening to kill him and his brother, and the police GRAB unit breathing down his neck, Memphis reassembles his old crew and attempts to pull off the logistically impossible in this action-packed, edge-of-your-seat thriller that rockets past you at thunderous speed.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||
"This should have been a fun movie: clean and tight and simple. Instead, it's an occasionally amusing comedy with the usual Bruckheimer nerve-plucking going on." -- Robert Horton, Film.com |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||
"Chases are big but--with one exception, which stands out for its determination to bring in da noise--joyless." -- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly
"The movie's seemingly absurd setup works better than you might guess because the filmmakers and actors never take it completely straight-line." -- Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune
"Like all Jerry Bruckheimer films, Gone in 60 Seconds has a slick look but no soul." -- James Berardinelli, Reel Views
"Has the energy of a dead battery." -- Jay Carr, Boston Globe
"This may, in fact, be the junkiest film in history to star three Academy Award winners." -- Jay Boyar, Orlando Sentinel
"Cage has found a movie to challenge Snake Eyes and 8MM as the dumbest of his career." -- Desson Howe, Washington Post
