BLAST FROM THE PAST (1999)
MORGAN'S RATING
Brendan Fraser is Adam Webber, the child of an eccentric inventor and his wife. Following a bomb scare in the 1960s that locked the Webbers in their bomb shelter for thirty-five years, Adam Webber must venture out into present-day Los Angeles and obtain food and supplies for his family, and a non-mutant wife for himself. He meets the beautiful, but troubled Eve, who reluctantly agrees to help him out. Soon enough, they both begin to fall for one another.

Eve: Well, I guess because I'm a little psychic. I have this thing.
Adam: Oh, that's nice.
Eve: Yeah, let me guess something. This is your first visit to Lala-land. You're staying somewhere in Hollywood because like an idiot you thought that would be an exciting place to stay. Am I right so far?
Adam: So far?
Eve: Yes, I'm right?
Adam: Right.
Eve: I knew it. Somehow you get on a bus and before you know it you're stuck in the San Fernando Valley without a clue, which brings us to here. Correct again?
Adam: Again.
Eve: Where are you staying? The Holiday Inn.
Adam: Yes! The Holiday Inn. That's exactly right.

CRITICAL COMMENTS
"The movie is funny and entertaining in all the usual ways, yes, but I was grateful that it tried for more: that it was actually about something, that it had an original premise, that it used satire and irony and had sly undercurrents." -- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times
"Spacek and Walken are pure comic energy!" -- Jane Ganahl, San Francisco Examiner
"Mediocre comic romance!" -- Desson Howe, Washington Post
"Inventive, fascinating!" -- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly
