MORGAN'S RATING | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Researchers on the undersea laboratory Aquatica have genetically altered the brains of captive sharks to develop a potential cure for Alzheimer's disease. There is one noteworthy unexpected side effect. The sharks got smarter. Which could mean trouble for the researchers. And lunch for the sharks. You can swim but you can't hide when a tropical storm floods Aquatica, plunging a deft ensemble cast into a harrowing battle of wits against sleek killing--and thinking!--machines who top out at 8,000 angry pounds.

QUOTES | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Russell Franklin: You think water moves fast. You should see ice. It moves like it has a mind. Like it knows it killed the world once and got a taste for murder. After the avalanche, it took us a week to climb out. Now, I don't know exactly when we turned on each other, but I know that seven of us survived the slide...and only five made it out. Now we took an oath, that I'm breaking now. We said we'd say it was the snow that killed the other two, but it wasn't. Nature is lethal but it doesn't hold a candle to man.

Carter Blake: What you've done is taken God's oldest killing machine and given it reason and will. What you've done is knocked us all the way to the bottom of the Gooddamn food chain. That's not a greap leap forward in my book.

SHOOTING DATES: August 1998 -- ?????????
- There are a number of in-jokes in the movie: the licence plate pulled from the shark's teeth is the same plate found in the tiger shark in Jaws. - Director Renny Harlin has a cameo as one of the employees leaving the facility early in the movie (he's the one with long, blonde hair and sunglasses). - The sharks are killed in the same ways as the sharks in Jaws, Jaws 2 and Jaws 3. The first is blown up by compressed gas, the second bites into a electric wire and the last one is blown up by a bomb. - The seaplane used in this film is the same one used in Six Days, Seven Nights. - The orange mini-sub visible in the wet-entry area was the same mini-sub seen in the end of Sphere, also starring Samuel L. Jackson. - In the kitchen there is a dry erase board with a shopping list. The first item is Finnish peaches, a reference to director Renny Harlin. |

Tom Scoggins: See how that works? She screws with the sharks, and now the sharks, the sharks are screwing with us.
Preacher: I carry a big stick and I'm the meanest motherfucker in the valley. Two sharks down, Lord, one demon fish to go.
Tom: One night seems like a week. Preacher: Relativity. Tom: What? Preacher: Einstein's theory of relativity. Put your hands on a hot pan, a second can seem like an hour. Grab hold of a hot woman, and hour can seem like a second, it's all relative. Tom: You know, I spent four years at Cal Tech, and that's the best physics explanation I've ever heard. |
