CRITICAL COMMENTS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
RELEASE DATE: May 20th, 2003 (USA) (VIDEO PREMIERE) SHOOTING DATES: April 2001 -- June 2001 - This is the second Sylvester Stallone film to be shelved for more than one year after its completion and the second film in a row to go direct-to-video in the United States. The previous film, Eye See You (2002), was shelved for nearly three years before barely getting a theatrical release and then going straight-to-video in the United States. This film bypassed theaters altogether to become the actor's first 'official' DTV title. - Revered actor Anthony Quinn died on June 3rd, 2001. He had completed shooting scenes only a few weeks prior to his death, making this his last in a staggering body of work. The film is dedicated to his memory. |

"The few good moments the film has, the interesting music used in the film, and a more engaging Stallone make Avenging Angelo better fare than Sly has served up for a while. But that's only like comparing Rhinestone to Stop or My Mom Will Shoot -- so he's obviously going a long way to go before his fan-base kicks in again." -- Clint, Moviehole
"If Angelo is any indication of the movies Stallone has to offer these next few years, he shouldn't bother at all. We'd be too asleep to notice." -- David Cornelius, Amazing Colossal Website
"Stallone deserves some credit here, because his performance is pretty good...Avenging Angelo is not a bad film per se. The main problem is that it lacks focus. Secondly, it doesn't have much to offer." -- Dennis Landmann, MovieFreak
"Avenging Angelo was a total waste and had me uttering this line as the end credits rolled: "Get me the Cobra." -- Dr. Drew, DVD Clinic
