THE MUMMY RETURNS (2001)
MORGAN'S RATING
Set in 1935, 10 years after the events of the first film, Rick O'Connell is now married to Evelyn and the couple has settled in London, where they are raising their 9-year-old son Alex. When a chain of events finds the corpse of Imhotep resurrected in the British museum, the mummy walks the earth once more, determined to fullfill his quest for immortality. But another force has also been set loose on the world...one born of the darkest rituals of ancient Egyptian mysticism, and even more powerful than Imhotep. When these two forces clash, the fate of the world will hang in the balance, sending the O'Connells on a desperate race to save the world from unspeakable evil and rescue their son before it's too late.
Brendan Fraser (Rick O'Connell), Rachel Weisz (Evelyn 'Evie' Carnahan O'Connell/Princess Nefertiri), John Hannah (Jonathan Carnahan), Arnold Vosloo (Imhotep), Oded Fehr (Ardeth Bay), Patricia Velasquez (Meela/Anck-Su-Namun), Dwayne Johnson (The Scorpion King), Freddie Boath (Alex O'Connell), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lock Nah), Shaun Parkes (Izzy), Bruce Byron (Red), Joe Dixon (Jacques), Tom Fisher (Spivey), Aharon Ipale (Pharoah Seti I), Quill Roberts (Shafek), Donna Air (Show Girl), Trevor Lovell (Mountain of Flesh).

QUOTES
Ardeth Bay: Don't you see? By putting on the Bracelet, your son has started a chain reaction that will awaken the Scorpion King and bring about the end of the world.
Rick O'Connell: [
To Ardeth] You, lighten up. [To Alex] You, big trouble. [To Jonathan] You, get in the car.
[Witnessing Imhotep 's resurrection]
Rick O'Connell: A few years ago I would have thought this was very strange.
Spivey: What is it with you and curses? "This place is cursed, this chest is cursed!"
Alex: The Book of the Dead!
Meela: What a clever little boy! Your mother must be missing you terribly. If you wish to ever see her again, you better behave!
Alex: Lady, I don't even behave for my parents, what makes you think I'm going to do it for you?
Meela: Your parents didn't put poisionous snakes in your bed while you were sleeping!

- A
Mummy follow-up, The Scorpion King, is a prequel to this film and featuring Dwayne Johnson's character from the second film.
- Additional cliffs had to be digitally added to the "Tidal Wave" scene in order to mask hundreds of spectators watching the production.
- In order to keep his smooth hairless look, Arnold Vosloo had his entire body shaved twice a day. Originally he tried waxing but couldn't stand the pain.
- The building used for the outside of the British Museum is not the real British Museum; it's University College London. The Museum was unavailable as it was undergoing external reconstruction and was covered in scaffolding.
- Brendan Fraser tore a spinal disk, cracked a rib, and injured his knees during production.
Dwayne Johnson suffered from food poisoning and sunstroke.
- The interiors of the O'Connell's house were filmed in the Shepperton Studios offices used by Ridley and Tony Scott.
- This film was the first time London's Tower Bridge was ever closed for filming, for to do so is like closing the 405 freeway in Los Angeles. They were allowed to close it for 20 minutes at a time, but the resulting traffic jame after the first time brought threats of arrest from Scotland Yard and reduced the closing time of ten minutes.
- Alex knocks over the columns in the same way his mother knocked over the book cases in
The Mummy (1999).
- During the attack when the four mummies chase the trolley, there are many similarities to
Terminator 2 (1991).
- Despite fighting his character (The Scorpion King) in the finale, at the time of release Brendan Fraser had not met
Dwayne Johnson (The Rock).
- The title does not appear at the beginning of this film. It finally is given at the end of the picture, after the headlining credits but before main credits roll.
- Clothes that Evie and Meela wear during the final scenes mirror the clothing that Nefertiri and Anck-su-namun wore in ancient times.
- The voice of the Scorpion King at the end of the film was dubbed by Brazilian rock singer Max Cavalera.
- The character Izzy is named after Stephen Sommers' dog.
Jonathan: I told you! I told you!
Meela: And your point is?
Jonathan: Well, I told you what you wanted to know so you wouldn't kill me! Meela: When did we make that arrangement?
Izzy: Whatever it is, O'Connell, I'm not interested. Every time I hook up with you, I get shot! Last time I got shot in the arse! I'm still in mourning for my arse!
Rick: This is bad.
Evie: We've had bad before.
Rick: This is worse.
Alex: My dad is going to kick your ass!
Imhotep: I do not think so!
