RELEASE DATE: December 25th, 1973 (USA) BOX OFFICE OPENING: $6.8 million (USA) BOX OFFICE RESULT: $39.7 million (USA) - Suzanne Somers is seen briefly as a pool girl, and it is she who was floating in the water after being shot by the motorcycle cop. - One of the death squad officers is named Red Astrachan, which is a popular variety of apple grown in central California. - The motorcycles used by the "death squad" cops through most of the movie are Moto Guzzi police bikes. However, British motorcycles (probably Triumphs) were used during the chase scene at the end. These would have been favoured by the stunt riders as they are lighter and easier to handle than the Moto Guzzis. - Clint Eastwood. declined the director's seat, where Ted Post stepped in. Books and interviews with Eastwood have said that he directed quite a bit of the film. - David Soul's performance as Davis, one of the vigilante cops in this movie, lead him to being cast as Detective Ken Hutchinson in the classic cop series "Starsky and Hutch" (1975). - Followed by three sequels: The Enforcer (1976), Sudden Impact (1983) and The Dead Pool (1988). |

Briggs: You're on loan to Stakeout, Callahan. Harry; That's right, Lieutenant! You saw to that. |
||||||||||||||||||||||
Harry: Well, I just work for the city, Briggs! Briggs: So do I, longer than you, and I never had to take my gun out of its holster once. I'm proud of that. |
||||||||||||||||||||||
Briggs: People are guilty until proven...I mean...God damn it, you know what I mean!
Harry: Briggs, I hate the damn system, but until someone comes along with changes that make sense, I'll stick with it.
