The Arc Grosse Pointe/Harper Woods March 20, 2002 Dear Friend, Your contributions to the Arc Grosse Pointe/Harper Woods have improved the lives of local people with developmental disabilities.  Your continued support will help us add an exciting new respite program and continue our forty-five year tradition of providing housing, employment, advocacy, recreation, and social activities for our neighbors with these disabilities.  This year our only fund-raiser is this appeal to you to give generously to our chapter of Arc. Our chapter is affiliated with the national and state Arcs whose members believe that people with developmental disabilities are valued citizens who should fully participate in community life.  The Arc Grosse Pointe/Harper Woods owns two local homes for twelve residents with developmental disabilities.  We support many recreational programs such as Special Olympics and social activities such as the ESP teen and adult club at the Foundation for Exceptional Children, a program of the Children’s Home of Detroit.  We also help provide employment through S.T.E.P. (Services to Enhance Potential). We are excited to announce a new respite program for our members.  The program will provide a nurturing environment in which families may place a family member with developmental disabilities for a night or weekend.  Respite care will allow parents a weekend getaway, a simple rest, or the ability to attend to family emergencies without the additional worry about supervising their child with special needs.  The respite program offered by the Children’s Home of Detroit will initially offer services for children up to 18 years of age and hopes to soon include adult care. You are invited to an open house for the new respite program on April 7, 2002, at 1 p.m., at the Children’s Home, 900 Cook Road, Grosse Pointe Woods.    We also hope that you will continue to support our long tradition of improving the lives of local individuals with developmental disabilities.       Sincerely,       Lynn C.
