Still Life With Doll
1997
ACRYLIC/GUACHE ON CANVAS
98.5 x 153.5

This painting involved a process of many sketches, before developing the composition.
At the time of starting this work, my husband and I started to think about having a child, which influenced my choice of items and the arrangement.  Rocking chairs conjure up images of a mother nursing her baby.
As the painting progressed and a child hadn't developed, I think my disappointment and confusion came through the picture, giving it an empty feel and a sadness, even though I refused to acknowledge or consciously express it myself.
