Children's Theatre of Nonsense is an independent theatre. Children's – because its actors are mainly children. Of Nonsense – because the choice of the repertoire and the stage way of embodying in the theatre are based on the fact that play, free fantasying and nonsense (hooliganism, unpredictableness) are the things that are most close and understandable for children.
The theatre is situated in Saint-Petersburg.
In the theatre play mostly children and young adults who are in a complicated situation in life (who are fully or partly deprived of their parents' care: pupils and graduates of children's homes, children from marginalized families, etc.) and who are for this reason deprived of the opportunity to engage in theatre despite their desire and giftedness.
The theatre co-operates with many well-known people: with the actor Sergey Bekhterev who plays in some of the performances, with the writer Alexander Ilyanen, with the photographer Yevgeniy Mokhorev, with the literaturtraeger Dmitriy Kuzmin, etc.
The theatre takes in actors separately for each performance. Some of the actors move from one performance into another. Ready performances are shown on various venues of Saint-Petersburg ("Borey" Arts Gallery, Museum of Anna Akhmatova, Library named after Blok, etc.). In 2000 the theatre was on tour in Germany.
The process of working at the performances includes visiting museums, theatres, concert halls, watching films, reading various literature, going to the countryside.
The theatre was created on an empty place in 1997. At first it had neither any premises of its own, nor any financing (the performances were staged on the directors' and the designer's own money), then for some time it worked in the club for children and teenagers "C9S" with the minimal financial support of several sponsors (mostly of the Charity Public Organization "Perspektiven" and of private persons from the Netherlands). At the present time the theatre has no premises of its own, the rehearsals take place at the directors' home, the minimal means for the directors' and the designer's salaries and for the staging of the performances are from time to time provided by sponsors from Holland (part of the expenses for the staging of the performances are still payed by the directors and the designer from their own salaries).
The leaders, founders and directors of the theatre are Arseniy Reicher and Alexander Altschuler. The constant designer of the theatre is Vanya Ivanov.
The directors and some of the actors of the theatre are at the same time administrators and technical staff of the theatre: mounters of the sets, lighting technicians, sound operators, props people, dressers, make up people. The designer not only designs, but also makes the sets, costumes and props with his own hands with a little help from the directors.
In april of 2002 the theatre was officially registered as a public organization
