I just got back from having one of the most adventerous, entertaining, and ass-kicking weekends I have ever had in my life. Iron Maiden has just proven once again to me why I think they are the best band in the planet. Iron Maiden has just invaded Texas and left no prisoners and proven they are the leaders of the metal comeback. For the rest of my life I will never forget Labor Day Weekend of the year 2000. I went to see Iron Maiden on four consecutive nights in Texas during an unbelievable record breaking heat wave that torched Texas. Four outdoor gigs with temperatures well over 100 degrees.
My attempt here is not to give detailed reviews of all the shows I witnessed, but to share my adventures of my memorable weekend following this band that has meant so much to me all over Texas.
It may be true that Maiden doesn't sell as many albums in the USA. But I guarantee you that some of their most loyal and hardcore fans are here too. Iron Maiden will tell you themselves that there are some states and cities in the United States that they know will never let them down. Texas is easily one of those places Maiden loves to play in the United States. That is why 1/4 of the shows they chose to play on the Ed Hunter tour last year were in Texas. Again they were back for 5 shows in Texas.
My hometown of Dallas, Texas was the first show. I saw Maiden open for Priest back during the Killers Tour. I have not missed a show or tour in Dallas/Ft. Worth since then. I was still there a few years back when the band played in a small club for like 600 people with Blaze as their singer. I never have abandoned ship on these guys and I never will. No one in the world is happier than I am that Bruce and Adrian are back and that they have regained their throne as the best metal band in the World.
Having witnessed Maiden on the front row a few times back in their peak in the 80's has me sort of spoiled. If I am not up close for their shows....I am just not happy. I camped out for three days in freezing temperatures and snow during the Powerslave Tour to get front row. It was back in the days when being first in line meant you got the good seats. That was before the scalpers and ticket agencies turned it into a money making business and many good seats are not available to the fans now who wait in line for tickets right when they go on sale. So, when me and four of my friends managed to get 3rd row center seats for the Dallas show. We were all psyched for the last month knowing we would be right in front of the band.
