Key Skills

Team Work &      Finished a Mentor and Peer leader course in 2002 (Manchester) where I was trained in

Leadership           presentation skills, time management, negotiation skills, team building and group work. Extensive problem based learning and lab work at UMIST gave me the opportunity to work in groups to solve challenging scientific tasks, where I held a leading role as the chairman. I have played piano and guitar in many bands and ensembles. I have acquired significant experience in team work during my time as a waiter and from team sports. Played for my high-school basketball team, trained with a Greek rowing team, play defence and goalkeeper for the Manchester Universities Ice/Inline hockey team (As the assistant captain I always try to inspire winning and maximum effort in the team).

Communication Produced a significant number of individual essays and group reports during my undergraduate work on different scientific issues (including a 100 page dissertation), participated in group debates, and delivered multiple individual and group poster and project presentations. Served as a Mentor for the Biomolecular sciences department for the year 2002/2003 (providing advice to 1st year students about life in Manchester and assisting them with coursework). As a waiter, I liaised with the customers and dealt with their requests and complaints.

Problem                Problem based learning at UMIST provided me and the rest of the undergraduate team

Solving                  training to successfully analyse, research, plan and produce reports, posters or presentations on previously unknown to us scientific topics under short time deadlines. I always provide the initiative for my own and the team’s thinking during music or sports.

Interests

Music                    Have been playing the piano since I was five years old and have reached a professional level; in order to achieve this I had to follow compulsory courses such as: choir (singing and conducting), composition, chamber music, sight reading, history and morphology of music. Also play guitar, write own music and lyrics.

Sports                   Love all kinds of sports and fitness, regularly visit the gym and pay attention to nutrition. I have participated at many individual and team sports competitions (basketball, rowing, Tae-Kwon-Do, ice/inline hockey).
