P L A I D - NYC
If you live in the metro New York area you know that the winter’s are long, cold and snowy. One way to break away from the doldrums is to plan a winter holiday. Miami Beach being the nearest tropical destination less than 3 hours away is ideal. It has a variety of clubs, bars, restaurants and great shopping. It has miles of white sand beaches and coral blue water. The first place I always go upon arrival is the Delano hotel. It is owned by Ian Schrager who was once the owner of Studio 54. He and designer Philip Stark have created a tranquil, very modern environment.
All are welcome at the Rose Bar which adjoins a lounge area of comfy chairs and settee’s. Bartenders Nicholas, Gigi and Andy serve up a mix of classic cocktails and electronic mellow music that will put anyone in a Zen like state. Back Door Bambi held every Monday night at Crobar is the best bet of the week. DJ’s Gigi and Shannon play classic ‘80s with Latin alternative dance music mixed in.
On returning home my first destination was Buckingham at Plaid. Boy George was surrounded by more press and camera crews than I have ever seen before at the club as well as a Leigh Bowery costume contest celebrating the re-release of the film by Charlie Atlas, “The Legend of Leigh Bowery”. Kenny Kenny was also returning from a winter holiday. “It was a spiritually uplifting journey to India“ he said. Debby Harry was looking just as amazing as ever. It is true that you appreciate something even more after you go away from it for a little while which is why winter holiday’s are a must.
