Chapter Six: Hey There, Sparky.
Called Ash up today. She says she's not busy Saturday night and would love to go do something that
day. So, we're going to a place just outside campus to have a paint-balloon war. Connor and his gal,
Dana are tagging along for kicks. Should be fun, no?
But, we're putting afterwards. I was never the putt-putting type, but oh well. She says she's never tried it before, and so I assured her that neither has Dana. Connor and I are pretty much in the same boat-- both our dates want to give it a try while us boys have that "been there, done that" sort of attitude towards it. "Putting!" Conner ranted on, pacing about the kitchen as he waited for his Chef Boyardee to finish heating in the microwave. "Putting!" "Tell me about it," I replied. "But, Ash wanted to do it, and she sounded really enthused, so I--" "--Couldn't say 'no'. Yeah, I feel you, mah brotha," Connor said flatly. "Same thing with Dana." Yes, we were practically two guys marooned on an island with no salvation. We'd probably end up eating each other in the end if putting turns out to be as dull as we are expecting it to be. Luckily, we have that paint-balloon war to look forward to. I just hope it doesn't get violent. Connor and I can get pretty competitive... Let's hope none of the girls return to their dorms all bruised up. But, I can almost guarantee that one of us guys will come home with a black eye--not because we start fights or anything, but because we get so into competitions that we unwisely get carried away and utterly reckless, careless, and foolish. But, that's just us. I sat in the living room, staring blankly at the TV screen. I hate boredom. It's so... boring. But, alas, the phone rang! I was desperate for something to do with my time, so I scrambled up to answer it. "Hello?" "Carney?" "Robbie?" "Yeah?" "Oh, hey there, Sparky. What's up!" "Sparky. That's a new one." "What's up! Don't leave me hangin', bro!" I laughed and said, "Not much... remember Ashlee? Ashlee Moore?" "Yeaaah... I do. That girl you were crazy about who never noticed you." "Well, gee, thanks." "Anytime.... But seriously, what about her?" "I'm double-dating with her and Connor and Dana." "Great!" "How are things with Tara?" "Peachy-keen. Hear from Brendan yet?" "A little bit.. I've been chatting with him online and stuff, and he says he'll be heading back to L.A. again in a couple of weeks." "Lucky Stentor. He's always missing school for some reason." I laughed. He had a point. "But yeah, he says he's going to be there to talk about shows and movies." "Oh, really? Yay!" "And I hear from Ryan that he and Tate are pretty darn close." "Yeaaah--she goes to DePaul now. How sweet."
It was great chatting with Michael again. Even if we went through a billion subjects under about four minutes, it was fun nonetheless. And I swore I'd tell him about how things went on Saturday. Now I just have to wait for Saturday to come! >> Chapter Seven >> |
