Reginald Harold Berry
1942 - 1999

A Son, Brother, Dad & Grandad, but most of all he was our friend.

Reg started me off on a journey back in 1997, a journey that would take me back in time. A time when our family were struggling to make ends meet and surviving hard times. Henham in Essex was my first stop, of which both of us had visited to try and retrace the steps of our ancestors.

All we had to go on was what our mother could remember, that our great grandmother was born in Henham Essex. We both decided to search the graveyard for the name of Walker.
At this time I was researching Tottenham Green, trying to trace information on The Cedars Tottenham Green. I came across a website on Tottenham Green. I contacted the owner of this site and exchanged information.
Sadly Reg passed away before I managed to find information on Emma Walker. She was actually born in Roydon, Essex. She was christened at St Mary's Great Parndon, which is in Harlow Essex. From the 1881 census of Roydon Essex, I found the family. With the help of Alan Swain who provided me with the marriage details of Emma's parents, Abraham and Mary Ann, I have been able to trace back.

I cannot deny there have been many times I have felt like giving up, the times when all I ended up with were dead ends as they say. But something kept me going, look ups and researching became part of my life, when times got bad I could escape back in time, times which made me realise that the bad times I was having were not half as bad as the times our ancestors had to go through.
These words I wrote for a friend, I have placed them here and dedicated them to our brother Reg.

Ray of Sunshine

In the days when we were young,
Sharing moments and having fun.
Never a thought about tomorrow
Or worry about our future sorrows.
Happy and carefree
That's how life was meant to be.
As those times began to fade
Our lives turned to change.
Some memories have passed from view
Not of those times I spent with you.
You were our ray of sunshine
In each and every way
We know you still shine down
On us today.
We wish we could be where you are
Past that brightest star.
One more time to see your smile
Take a quiet walk for a while.
We know you are gently sleeping
Faith will keep us believing.
Our ray of sunshine we will never part
For now you are always in our hearts.

For this is the journey we all must make
And each must go alone
It's all a part of the master's plan
A step on the road to home
Miss me - but let me go
