Great North Walk Series
Come along and join us for a spirit of discovery as we trek Australia's Great North Walk. Starting out from Newcastle this walk will take you through an impressive network of State Forests, National Parks and Bushland Corridors.
One of the lasting monuments of the Bicentennial year of 1988 is The Great North Walk, a 250 kilometer walking track linking Sydney to Newcastle. The Great North Walk is designed for people of all ages and levels of experience. It provides a series of day walks and weekend walks with numerous access points, facilities and connections to public transport. These short walks, combined, make up a 14 day trek.
The Great North Walk passes through some of the state’s most outstanding natural scenery from Sydney Harbour to the Newcastle coastline. There is a section through Hunters Hill and another through the magnificent Lane Cove River bushland. The Historic Benowie section winds a path to Berowra Waters and the Hawkesbury River. The Great North Walk also provides access through Brisbane Water National Park and an impressive network of State Forests.
Campsites are provided along the route. In some areas shops and comfortable accommodation are never far away. In more remote sections a simple tent-site beside a quiet stream is your 5 star accommodation.

The Story of a Wise Man

The Wise Man On The Mountain, Says....
"As you get older you obtain WISDOM. You become more ATTRACTIVE to the opposite sex and you will be at peace in the knowledge that those younger than you hold you in HIGH ESTEEM."

"The wise man on the mountain talks rubbish!"

SUNDAY 19 APRIL
Birrabang Canyon
Birrabang is a little known canyon which is suitable for experienced bushwalkers who are looking for an introduction into canyoning. There are none of the difficult sections that most canyons have such has water jumps and difficult climbs. Subject to rain fall the canyon is short and is usually shallow enough to walk through. However, the canyon will include some rock scrambling and/or boulder hopping. As a safety precaution we will be taking ropes for some of the more technical negotiations. The access is from the Bells Line of Road near Mount Wilson via Birrabang Brook. In the interest of safety, we have included a risk warning for this event.

SATURDAY 09 MAY
Devils Hole & The Boars Head

The Devils Hole is a very steep and rocky pass. It is an all inspiring and rewarding walk which drops down through a narrow cleft in the escarpment. From the plateau area the walk meanders beside an area of hanging swamp covered in Mountain Ash before descending sharply through a chasm and under a large boulder that is suspended between the cliff walls.

SUNDAY 24 MAY
Mount Ivory

Marramarra National Park is a great place to explore. It's at the junction of Hawkesbury River and Berowra Creek, on the northern outskirts of Sydney, and features great wetlands, views of the Hawkesbury and the largest area of mangroves on the Central Coast. This park has been left in its natural and undeveloped state, and is mainly the preserve of experienced bushwalkers.

SUNDAY 24 MAY
Gentlemans Halt

This bicycle ride takes us out about 9 kilometers along an undulating trail across the Canoelands Ridge for some inspiring views of the Hawkesbury, Mangrove Creek and Pumpkin Point. During our return we pick up a small foot pad for a walk out to Gentlemans Halt for some further views of the river. From here we retrace our steps back up the ridge where we will collect our bikes for the return ride back to the cars. During the day the ride offers many and varied views of the Hawkesbury and its surrounds.

SUNDAY 21ST JUNE
Beyond The Falls

Here is a delightful walk that will take us through an area of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. It includes some short off-track sections, visits two prominent lookouts that have extensive views of Pittwater, a historical cemetery and a beautiful waterfall in a rocky glen. A camera is certainly a must on this walk! Other points of interest include some interesting tessellated pavement and Indigenous engravings. The history in the bay area dates back to the 1800s.
