THE BAND!!!
HOME
The band started out at the beginning of this year, after the suggestion came from Laura. Laura, Anna and Nat had been friends for three years and thought their eclectic musical tastes would work 'really really well' (as Linda Barker would say) together.

The name, 'The Cat's Room' came from the room they practise in at Anna's farm (when it used to be a garage the family cats had kittens in there prompting the name 'The Cat's Room').

When asked what their musical style is, the band say, "It's a weird mix of instruments...but it seems to work. We try to get out of the 'punk-rock rut' that most bands our age seem to be stuck in.  Our music is jazzy, jingley-jangley, indie-ish, melodic, folk-rock. Phew!"

Laura started playing the guitar in year 3, but only got as far as knowing 'Michael row the boat ashore'. Upon moving to Bristol, a transformation into a townie made her forget about the stringed instrument :o( However, by joining a theatre group, she caught the bug for performing, and found her voice. Then, moving into Wiltshire, she became enthralled in the alternative music scene (thanks to her friends!), and picked up the guitar once more. She hasn't looked back!!! She achieved a grade B in GCSE music(which she's very proud of), no thanks to her whiny teacher.

Natalie has been singing since forever, playing the clarinet for about 4 years (although she's only just picked it up again after a 3 year drought!), composing music for five years and has only been strumming the geetar for less than a year.  She became interested in feminism, and namely bands of the Riot Grrrl genre at the age of fourteen, and has now progressed into the joys of funk, folk (thanks to Anna), and random eclectic tunes (due to Laura's influence!). She has played in a punk-rock band for two years and is now trying her hand at jazz-folk!

The band's cellist Anna lives on a farm, which happens to be the band's choice of practise area! She has been playing her cello (named Johan by Nat) now since September 2003, which led her to discover the musical delights of Bach and other classical composers. She is a fan of folk music, (amongst numerous other genre's in her music collection) having gone to numerous world music festivals since the age of nine. Anna is also a world-class poi swinger!!

Chris has played the guitar for seven years (making him the most experienced instrumentalist in the band). Liking mainly indie and emo bands, he has brought a more alternative sound to the band. Nat, his sister asked him to play in 'The Cat's Room' after being impressed by his wondrous geeeeetaring skills in a production of 'Grease: The Musical'.

Nat and Laura have achieved their grade 4 in singing (so they are really very good!), and Nat, Anna, and Laura have all contributed to their old school choir.

So that's the band. Watch this space--->
