Kevin So

"Riveting...impeccable...unusually talented..." That's what the Boston Globe says about Kevin So, one of the most exciting and powerful singer-songwriters to emerge from the Boston music scene. Making a name for himself as a boundary-stretching singer-songwriter, So's original blend of pop, folk, blues, hip-hop, and rhythm & blues has garnered the attention and praise from legends Richie Havens, Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul & Mary), Jack Hardy, and most recently Keb' Mo'. Fans and critics soon caught on to So's lyrical truths and knack for engaging people through his music, intense storytelling, and foot stomping performances. He has been nominated eight times for the coveted Boston Music Award, most recently for Outstanding Male Singer/Songwriter and Outstanding Song/Songwriter. Kevin has opened for some of the industry's best known acts including Joe Cocker, Randy Newman, Boz Scaggs, Livingston Taylor, Ellis Paul, Martin Sexton, Chris Smither, David Wilcox, Mary Lou Lord, Dar Williams, and toured with Billy Bragg. He is a favorite mainstage act at the world-renowned Kerrville Music Festival in Texas and has played such famed clubs as the Fillmore West in San Francisco, Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago, The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and The Beacon Theater in New York City.

Kevin's most recent CD, Leaving the Lights On - a double album combines such diverse influences as Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Tupac Shakur, Michael Jackson, and Marvin Gaye. Confronting identity, sexuality, history, family, and racism, this recording is one of the most talked about independent albums of the past year. Kevin has also written a song with legendary bluesman Keb' Mo' called "Talk" which was released on Keb' Mo's latest CD, Peace Back By Popular Demand (Sony Records) - in response to the tragic events of 9/11. Now with a rigorous touring schedule of nearly 200 dates annually Kevin So has quickly become one of the most sought after artists on the national music scene.
