CRIMSON SABRE 2000
Themesong – Hacken Lee

Crying in the night
Sighing a deep sigh
Locked in darkness
All is dead
On that fateful night
Time was standing still
But a battle was soon to come
One we cannot avoid
So let’s hope for the best

Love is deep
Hate is just as deep
What is real
Needs to be pretend
Although it was meant to be
We were forced to pretend it never happened
Bury true love
Avoid closer glances

Too cruel
Too many bitter sacrifices
With the hope that one day
We would be without hate
I try to take your hand
But I cannot reach close enough to hold it
Was it me or was it you
That didn’t have enough confidence
Smiling, I ask the sky
Is there such a thing as everlasting love?

Ultimate Passion (Subthemesong) – Kong Wah

We met and fell for each other unexpectedly
Didn’t bother wasting a minute to consider the consequences
The clouds took only a minute to change their colors
And my wish became true

# Didn’t know how to get rid of this feeling
Didn’t want to be all alone
Despite our two different worlds, I fell in love with you
This passion of ours was genuine
Even when we spent all our life in bitterness
I realized that I would love you till eternity

@ My heart hurts, this passion is slowing cooling
The heaven plays its tricks
And I would never understand the reason why
It couldn’t be controlled
How can this passion be controlled?
Asked the heaven above
But I couldn’t find her spirit anywhere

Each day gets a little harder
One life, one love, one memory
Loving someone is hard
Like chasing after an empty dream
Synopsis

This is another adaptation of Jin Yong’s novel, this time, starring Gordon Lam, Kong Wah, Emily Kwan, Melissa Ng, Fiona Yuen, Charmine Sheh, and Sara Au (host of K-100).  There are two main stories going on in this series, the first one involving the love triangle of Kong Wah, Emily Kwan, and Melissa Ng.  And the second one involving the love triangle of Gordon, Charmine, and Sara.  Emily is obsessed with Kong Wah while he is in love with Melissa (who just happened to play duo roles).  Emily spent her whole life either making Kong Wah’s life miserable or trying to convince him to marry her.  Melissa (after giving birth to her and Kong Wah’s daughter - played by Sara Au) dies only to come back and portrays her younger sister.  Of course, she ends up falling for her brother-in-law.  Gordon meets Sara and thought she is a boy at first but later finds out that she is Kong Wah (his mentor)’s daughter and tries throughout the series to keep her out of trouble.  Gordon falls for Charmine who is pretending to be from the mo lum world when she’s really a princess.  Sara falls for Gordon while Fiona (the head of the snake sect) falls for Sara (cause she’s pretending to be a boy again).  In the end, Fiona becomes Gordon’s student, Sara ends up with Gordon, and Charmine becomes the one-armed nun.

Since there is an extremely well written summary of this series already at http://come.to/moviereviews, I don’t have to elaborate any further (Yes, I’m being lazy!).  My opinion for this series is that Kong Wah is still one of the best actors at TVB and deserve some type of recognition (perhaps his own lead in a series for once!).  Emily is perfectly cast as an obsessed woman.  Melissa is okay, nothing too outstanding.  Fiona is good although she has too much makeup on in this series.  Charmine is still the same as all of her other series.  Sara is still raw in her acting but did okay as a newcomer.  Gordon is fine except for the fact that he’s missing the “tai hup” personality.  Unlike Felix or Andy Lau, Gordon don’t really strike me as the big hero-kung-fu-master type at all.  Bottom line is that this is the weakest adaptation of Jin Yong’s novel I have ever seen.  HSDS 2000 was much better.
