Well, today's my birthday, although it's 12:30 AM, so it's really just been my birthday for a little while. Although the actions of some jerks on June 16th almost dampened my birthday eve spirits. This weirdo, who came in looking for posters of "Dawn, Vampirella, Lady Death, Razor, or anything like that at all," was trying to tell me about how the Star Wars movies should have been (because he knows) much darker. Instead of Anakin turning on the Empire and abandoning the Dark Side (aka the fucking only ending that makes sense), Luke should have murdered Vader. He also kept telling me that Episode III should be "at least a PG-13 rating," but ideally an R. I was all, What, why, Star Wars are kids movies, and he and an annoying co-worker were like, "NO! STAR WARS ISN'T A KID'S MOVIE," obviously not being able to differentiate something like Star Wars from a "kiddie movie" piece of shit like Snow Dogs, and it's like, dudes, they make Star Wars coloring and sticker books for a reason, bros. Just because something is at least partly a kid's movie doesn't mean it's not for all ages. Jerks. Also, they were talking about Anakin falling into the lava, and I guess they misunderstood my discontent over R-rated Star Wars (knowing the perv he probably wanted Leia and Mon Mothma to dyke it out) for not knowing that Anakin gets disfigured, and at that point I became so enraged I simply excused myself from the conversation and returned to the task at hand, re-hanging "Battle of the Planets" wallscrolls in more asthetically pleasing position. I think I did a good job.

I don't know what to say about the "Stone Cold" Steve Austin situation. I'm just really pissed off and sad and confused. How much longer can I watch wrestling with no Stone Cold and no (or at the very least, much less) Rock? :(

Finally, my picks for the week:

Who the hell decided that Beach Head was such a badass? His name is Beach Head, people.

Well, I'm off to read my JSA: Darkness Falls trade and prepare for another underwhelming birthday (although the promise of Mr. Show and Buffy DVDs is alluring).

6/8/02
Sorry for the lack of updates over the last few days. I've been a little funk, but I'm pretty sure that I got my groove back.

So today a guy at work was compiling an oh-so hilarious list of "Top ten things that will be revealed about Wolverine's origin," (timely, huh?) like "was bitten by a radioactive wolverine." Do you get it? He asked me to add one, so I wrote "Wanted Rick Jones's friends to think Rick was a chicken" and no one laughed. I can only assume they have no read the immortal INCREDIBLE HULK (Vol. 1) #1; although maybe if they had a crappy Ultimate Hulk title was some crappy trendy creative team, let's say Joe Casey and Humberto Ramos, they would not only buy it, but they would buy all the shitty variant covers and whack off to it and then try and sell it back at 20 bucks. It reminded me of the time when another employee was telling a customer about a frequent shopper with the surname of "Blood," and I said, "Man, it would be funny if she had any males in her family named Jason!" and she was like "What?"

SPIDER-MAN: BLUE #1 is still sold out. #2 comes out next week, and I guess I'll have to snag that shit up, even though it's going to drive me nuts not having a copy of #1. One day.

The more I think about it, the more I don't get why the scene where Padme applies C-3PO's panels was deleted from AOTC. It seems pretty important, and it sounds kinda hot.

A dude (Steve Schroeder) offered me Chuck Finley for Brandon Duckworth in my Yahoo! Fantasy League. I was pretty suspicious, but I'll see how Duckworth does in his start tomorrow before making any rash decisions. I am really starting to tire of Chan Ho Park, even if he is Asian.

I bought a really sweet Chirs Jericho action figure earlier this week, but it's been lost under a mountain of clothes and comics on my floor since I opened the box (which I did immediately after coming home). Hopefully I will find it.

I caught the MTV Movie Awards Thursday night, and I have to say, I enjoyed the hijinx of Jack Black and SMG. In the opening parody, it was said (in writing) that the Spider-Man costume was "Just the right amount of gay," which I'm sure will trouble certain fags but I thought it was pretty funny. Plus, he said "I feel a tingling in my Arachnads." I dunno if I really feel comfortable capitalizing "Arachnads," or not, but I have been doing so with my chatroom buddies, so I will leave that as it is for now.

Even though we close early tomorrow, I imagine that I will not be called by any of my friends to do anything, so I will have time to finally catalog the mound of books on my floor. Also, I have the last five issues or so of Daredevil to read, which I am most looking forward to. I know a lot of people complain about the Elektra costume but those people need to be punched in the face. It's no different than the X-Men movie costumes, and those worked out fine, and it's also pretty darn sexy. And it's not like Elektra's classic costume is exactly an example of great design (unlike Logan's yellow and red costume - that ruled.)

I haven't watched FX Buffy reruns in forever, but I caught "The Body" the other day. It still gets me every time.

I forgot about this, but I am still SO PISSED about the stupid religious kids at the AOTC midnight showing who wanted to tell me Harry Osborn was the Hobgoblin. Even that fucking awful Spider-Man cartoon in the 1990's didn't commit such an egregious slight to Spidey history. I guess they think that because they're in high school and love Jesus they can't be wrong, but I think we all know that isn't the case.

Nothing new in the situation with that girl except I realize that it is a microcosm of how I do everything wrong all the time with stuff like that. Well, Ben got a girlfriend (Don't ask me how, he's uglier than I am by far) so maybe there is hope yet (there isn't).

I was thinking about this the other day - did the makers of the Keanu Reeves/Cameron Diaz film "Feeling Minnesota" take that from the Soundgarden song "Outshined" ("I'm looking California/and feeling Minnesota") or is it just a coincidence or is that some sort of common phrase or what? And if so, why Minnesota? I've never been there. I asked Austin but he wasn't much help (as usual.) Speaking of Austin, he used some webpage and made South Park versions of our "friends" here.

Still sad about Edie. NOT sad about Dee Dee Ramone.

6/5/02 - AM Update
Even though I help open the store tomorrow, I'm up a little late because I'm kinda bummed about something. A girl who I got involved with at the end of this past semester decided to tell me that she was still in love with her dickhead ex-boyfriend, who she constantly complains about. That was kind of a kick in the pants!

Here's a play by play:

her (01:00:36 AM): well i don't know how to put it i just have been doing a lot of thinking and i guess i finally figured that the only conclusion i have come up with is that i love alex and i can't be with anyone right now and this is extremly hard to talk about you have no idea
me (01:01:16 AM): Well how about that
her (01:02:20 AM): now you probably wont ever talk to me again
her (01:02:33 AM): but i am not going to lie to you
me (01:05:44 AM): So that's cool
her (01:06:10 AM): right

Yeah, I wish I could have thought of cleverer things to say, but I was holding them in, really. Between this and my continued distress over U-Go Girl (Edie Sawyer)'s death over in X-Force, I forsee a hard time sleeping tonight. At least she was right about the not talking part.

Did I mention I finally found a Speed Racer figure to go into my Mach V? Well, I did. Thank god that nightmare is over!

New NEW-X-MEN tomorrow, though, that should placate the harsh pain of reality for at least a few moments. I also hope that our store didn't sell out of our reorder copy of Spider-Man: Blue #1, I missed out on it the week it came out.

Did I mention I also accidentally closed the window where I was typing a post full of insightful comments about Thursday night's upcoming WWE SmackDown!? Tonight has sucked. The highlight was Austin and I totally MSTing that POS magazine, Entertainment Weekly. Owen Gleiberman can bite me (and he'd like it).

Today is also Ben's birthday. Happy birthday, Ben!

6/4/02
Sorry that Ben hasn't updated the Geek Diary in over a year, but I (Albert) am taking it over.

Today when we were counting the new comics, we were talking about artists, and the dudes, you wouldn't believe some of the dudes I work with, were like, Mike Allred sucks, and I was like "No way, he rules," and they were like "I like DETAIL. I like Jim Lee!" and I'm like, "Ok, I still like Allred," and they're like "It's ok, dude - we're not snobs," and I'm like, "Hey, hey, wait, I like Mike Allred, you like Jim Lee, I'm the one who is a snob here," but I didn't know the proper way to express that without looking like a jerk so I basically kept to myself.

I spent a good hour or two today polybagging our copies of THE FILTH #1 - it looks like Morrison has done it again (wrote a steaming pile of non-sensical, self-indulgent shit).

Speaking of Morrison, I almost choked on my own vomit when I realized we order equal number of Joe Casey's far inferior UNCANNY X-MEN as we do his NEW X-MEN. Thank God Casey's getting off that (not the only thing he's getting off of, I'll assure you), but I think Chuck "THE CALL aka the worst comic book idea ever" Austen is taking over, so you might as well put a bullet through my head (without using a gun).

Mr. Show DVDs came out today. I would have bought it, but I spent all my money on comic books on a late weekly purchase on Sunday, so I guess I'll have to wait until my birthday - lucky for my, Buffy Season 2 is ALSO coming out on DVD next week, so this just might be the best birthday ever, since the time that the girl that I liked went to my birthday and I thought we could be Scattergories partners (we weren't).

7/18/01
Well, nothing much to report except that this is my last entry before my trip to California.  I'll be attending the San Diego Comic-Con!! Wooo!!!  So expect a report when I return from California at the beginning of August.

7/15/01
I counted my DVDs today, counting my Monty Python's Flying Circus set as a single DVD.  The total is 81.

7/14/01
I drove to the mall this morning to buy some clothes.  I'm almost positive I drove by the high school chick from 6/22/01 in the parking lot.  She was without the baby, but it looked like the same older woman was with her.  This was the third run-in with her in less than a month.  I'm sure she thinks I'm following her, especially since her family lives a block away from my house (which would make it easy to track her comings and goings).  I am not, however, following her.

At night I went with some friends to see the National Symphony Orchestra perform pieces from popular movies.  There were a lot of old people there, but lots of young people, too.  We were not the nerdiest looking group there, which was helped by the fact that we had a girl in our group.  The highlight of the show was when they played pieces from Star Wars.  It was the last pieces they played that night, but several stupid people left in the middle of it, trying to "beat the traffic."  Fools!  Also, the woman sitting next to us farted at least five times during the show.  Maybe she thought the music was loud enough to cover up the farting sound.  It was not.

7/13/01
I woke up this morning and realized I forgot to watch ET last night.  I got on to the quicktime website and found where to download the trailer.  While I got dressed for work, I let it download, but by the time I had to leave, it was only half done.  There are no shots of Spidey in the first half of the trailer, so I was disappointed.  When I got to work I downloaded the whole thing in about 30 seconds.  The computer there is shitty, so the video was very choppy.  Also, there's no sound card in my work computer so I didn't get to hear the cool technoish music.  I did get to see a bit of the web-slinging, though, and it looked very cool.

I left early from work to go to a doctor's appointment.  While in the waiting room, I started reading Neil Gaiman's new book American Gods.  I think I'd already read the first chapter off of his website.  I wasn't sure, though, if that was an abridged excerp, so  I began reading the book from the very beginning.

After seeing the doctor, I went to the Price Club and bought luggage.  I never owned my own luggage before, and since I'll be moving out soon, I figured it's something to own.  I will get to try the new luggage out when I go to San Diego for the comic convention next week!

When I got home I finished downloaded the entire Spider-Man trailer.  It was worth the wait!  The website tries to make it so you can't save the trailer to your computer, but I'm smart and I figured out how to get it.  I also went and downloaded the LOTR trailer to my computer.  I watched both of them several times.  In fact, I'm watching the Spider-Man trailer right now.

7/12/01
They're going to play the Spider-Man teaser trailer on Entertainment Tonight.  So I have to remember to watch it.

7/11/01
Got new comics today.  Excitement about the upcoming comic convention in San Diego is rising.

On the way home from work, I stopped at the supermarket to pick up some bread for my lunch Friday.  In the parking lot I ran into the high school chick from 6/22/01.  She had her baby in her arms and an older woman was with her (mother? mother-in-law?).  We definitely made eye contact, but it happened so quickly and we were both walking so fast in opposite directions, that neither of us were able to say anything.  Had I had more time, I would've said "hi," but I don't know if she would have...

7/8/01
It's very late and I have work tomorrow.  I wanted to stay a little longer at the barbeque that I attended tonight.  A lot of my friends from high school were there, and a few of them were people I hadn't seen in four or five years.  It was fun.  The whole weekend was pretty fun, but I drank too much and didn't get enough sleep.

Most importantly, I didn't have enough time to read the comics I need to read.  At this rate, I'm going to be very backed up when moving time comes, especially after I buy all those comics in San Diego.  Even the novel I'm in the middle of has taken me over a month to get just over halfway through it.

Also, I regret paying to see Scary Movie 2.

7/5/01
Today's Thursday and that means that it's new comics day!  Usually, it's Wednesday, but I guess they like to change the day around to keep it interesting.  Because of my activities yesterday, I was incredibly sore.  It was even difficult to walk, which made me consider not going to the comic book store today and save the trip for the weekend.  But then I looked at this week's list and saw that Ultimate Spider-Man was coming out today.  That and a new issue of Radioactive Man.  I jumped in my car once lunch started and headed off towards the comic book store.

As soon as I pulled out of my job's parking lot, I noticed a little spider had spun a cool looking web between my driver door and side-view mirror.  The guy was literally hanging on by a thread.  I felt bad and didn't want the spider to fall off to his death (if the fall didn't kill him, one of the cars would have).  I drove very slowly, not going over 35 MPH, until I readed a woody parking lot.  Taking the napkin from my bagged lunch, I got out of the car and carefully placed the web and the spider on the napkin.  He started freaking and ended up falling to the ground.  I poked him a few times with a pine needle that was laying around and got a good reaction out of him.  After making sure that I wouldn't roll over him as I pulled out of the parking lot, I resumed my journey to the comic book store.

Then I got to the comic book store and bought comics.  I had to pay using my Visa card today because I forgot my checkbook at home.  I noticed there were no copies of the new Ultimate X-Men TPB that was supposed to come out today.  Was that delayed or something?  I probably wouldn't have bought it anyway even if it had been there.  I did spot a copy of the new issue of the Waiting Place, which is a series I discovered at the last Small Press Expo.
I haven't read it in a while, and if I were to start reading again, I'd have to reread the issues I own.  But it did intrigue me.  Perhaps I should purchase the TPB of the original miniseries I've heard came out.

7/4/01
It's the 4th of July and I have a hugeass blister on by right heel.  I've never had a blister on my foot before, but I knew it had to be drained.  I just finished with that and am going to be putting the needle away after I finish writing this.  I don't know what that liquid in there was anyway.  It was too clear and watery to be puss, but it tasted very salty.

I think this day was pretty geek-free.  I got up early, earlier than I get up to go to work, and went downtown.  First I checked out the National Archives, which were having a whole ceremony to celebrate the upcoming renovation of the rotunda that houses the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.  George Washington and other Founding Fathers were there even!  After that I walked all over the place (Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, Washington Monument, a few Smithsonian Institution museums, etc.).  There's a hilarious story about me trying to find a bathroom before 10:00 AM, but, as with most "I really have to pee, but there's no bathroom nearby!" stories, you had to be there.

After that I met up with some friends at the American History Museum.  The rest of the day is a blur except for later.  We got dinner at some sandwich place and sat around until the fireworks started.  It was pouring rain, so we were all sure that the fireworks would be cancelled.  Then, all of a sudden, we start hearing these loud banging noises (sounded like thunder, but being in DC we should've assumed they were gunshots) and realized THE FIREWORKS HAD STARTED!  We rushed out to the street to join the crowd!

The last time I went downtown to see the fireworks, I was immensely disappointed in how short and crappy the presentation was.  This was not the case today.  The fireworks were beautiful.  Plus, there were a few drunken hecklers yelling things like "That's my favorite!" and "Fuck England! Fuck King George!" that just helped make the fireworks more fun for everyone.

Okay, so I had lots of fun and saw lots of crap.  There was a downside.  The blister for one.  Also, I'm sore everywhere.  I was basically walking from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM.  Oh, and I missed the 4th of July sale at the local comic book store.  Maybe I'll have to check out the 30% off sale Mile High's having.  It's time to stock up on TPBs...

6/27/01
Things should've gone very well today.  It was Wednesday, which means I got to go buy new comics today.  But then on my way home from work, I stopped at the post office.  As I got back in my car, I tracked in a huge slab of gum on my shoe.  Someone threw gum right on the ground right outside my car door.  It's been years since I stepped in anything (feces, vomit, gum), so this pissed me off.  It was really fucking hot outside, but I had to sit there with the car door open trying to scrape whatever gum I could get off of my shoe with a plastic spoon.

Oh, but I had to stop for gas.  And I noticed my right front tire needed air, so I had to stop and take care of that.  I got all sweaty and my fingers became blackened from the crap on my tires.  When I got home I washed my hands and got a pair of scissors to cut the gum out of my car's floor carpets.  Man, what a bitch!  Life sucks!!

After that things got better.  On the treadmill today, I tried reading a comic to pass the time.  Usually, I listen to the radio and I'll probably have to stick to that method because my new copy of X-Force got all wrinkly with palm sweat.

Looking forward to reading the new Ultimate Marvel Team-Up.  Two Allred comics in one day!

6/24/01
I know I'm straying a bit from the "geek" theme, but I ran into two more high school people today!  This time it was at the local grocery store.  One was a chick I always thought was cute, although she was a bit of a slut from what I've heard.  Unfortunately, she now has long dreadlocks, which never works on a suburban white girl no matter how many drugs she's on.  She was with some guy, her boyfriend I assume, who had short, light blue hair.  She did not see me.  I doubt she would've said hi if she had seen me.

After that, I spotted my old math teacher.  She looked the same.  I think she spotted me when I was in the parking lot.  I was on the move, though, so there wasn't really an opportunity for her to say anything.

Also, it is worth noting that I did not go out Friday or Saturday night.  No one called me to do anything.  There was even one friend who said she was going to call me to go out with her and her friend who's here from out-of-town, but she didn't call.  I was hoping my college friends would call.  It's always me who suggests stuff to do, so I decided to give it a break.  I don't mind spending time at home or otherwise on my own on weekends.  It just would've been nice to get a call.  I'm pretty sure next time I see them they'll tell me a cRaZy story about something that happened when they were on their way to a party this weekend.

6/23/01
I had a few errands to run today.  My sister had a $20 gift certificate from Tower that she wanted to spend, so we headed over there.  I browsed while she picked out some crap to waste her $20 on.  I couldn't find the new Gaiman book there, which surprised me.  Aren't most of the people who work at Tower former-goths?  Aren't they all usually comics or scifi/fantasy fans?  They should know who Gaiman is and that he has a new book out!  Doesn't make any sense!

Next, I had a 10% off coupon at Best Buy.  I decided to pick up an anime movie on DVD that I had been eyeing for a while.  I only ever saw it selling for retail ($30) until today ($20), so I decided to take the risk and buy it.  I browsed a little and noticed my third high school person in two days.  She had gotten fatter since high school.  She didn't notice me, and I had no interest in "catching up."

Later I watched the anime movie.  It was pretty good, so I don't think I'll resell it on eBay.  Even if I wanted to sell it, I could only make around $10, so it's probably worth keeping around.  I also watched Eyes Wide Shut, which I'd never seen before.  I liked it a lot.  The piano notes made certain scenes much scarier.  Why do some people say this is a bad movie?

6/22/01
This afternoon, I went to the Price Club to browse the books/music/movies section.  I was hoping to find a copy of Neil Gaiman's new book American Gods, but it wasn't there.  Actually, I can't seem to find this book anyplace except online.  But I'd prefer to pay a B&M store as long as its discounted.  Guess I'll just have to wait.

I checked out the DVDs and decided, on a whim, to pick up the new Stanley Kubrick Collection.  They had it for a great price, so I grabbed it and headed for the checkout lines.  If anyone else has ever tried buying one or two items at the Price Club, they quickly realize that the Price Club is in desperate nead of a checkout lane.  It's also in desperate need of more cashiers.  I was there on a Friday afternoon after everyone had gotten out of work, and there were all these closed checkout lanes just begging for a cashier to show up and open it for business.

I picked the shortest of the long lines and got in my most comfortable waiting position.  As I looked around, I noticed the face of a guy I went to high school with several years ago.  He was about three or four lines away, but he was looking right at me.  Actually, he was looking right in front of me at a girl that I went to high school with.  They had actually dated all through high school and college and, as I was told, got married recently.  That's why I really shouldn't have been as surprised as I was when he started walking towards his wife with their baby in his arms.  I don't think he saw me, but even if he had, I don't think he would've said anything.  She might have.  We used to be friends in elementary school before she realized she was way too attractive to be friends with me.  Their backs were facing me the entire time.  If she had noticed me, I would've said something, but I wasn't about to approach them and be like "Hi, you have a family now!  I'm buying Kubrick DVDs.  Me am loser."  Not that I wasn't feeling much better about my life situation than theirs.  They certainly couldn't have bought an hundred dollar DVD box set on impulse.  The most they could probably do at this point is splurge on the super absorbant diapers or maybe the overly thick condoms to try and keep any more babies from popping out of her.

I noticed a faster moving line and switched.  I did take a few glances back to see how she looked.  Considering she'd had a baby recently, and she probably had to go through the horrifiying realization that at 23 her life was essentially now going to be devoted to a her child, she looked damn good.  I do hope she had some Clearasil in her cart, though...

6/21/01
SAN DIEGO COMIC CON NEWS!!  I received the "professional badges" today for Al and I.  And since I received a digital camera for my birthday this year, expect a HUGE San Diego Comic-con report this July!  I bought a 48 Mb compact flash card for the camera, which means that, in addition to the 8 Mb card that came with it, I am now capable of taking 145 high quality pictures.  If I want to take low quality pictures, I can take 580 (but don't expect a con report with 580 pictures...).

6/18/01
Man, has it been a while since I wrote to you!  I'm not really sorry, though, since I've been so busy with so many amazing things.  In case you were wondering, I've still been buying comics and DVDs.  In fact, today I received word of a nearby Borders that was selling the upcoming You Can Count on Me DVD over a week before it was officially supposed to be released.  Most stores have DVDs in stock before the official release date, but are obligated by agreements to the studios to keep them in the back and not sell them before the release date.  Sometimes stores break the rules and that looked o be the case at this Borders.  Unfortunately, the store was about an hour away during rush hour, but the movie was worth it.  I hopped in the car, drove over there, and discovered that either they sold out of their copies or they decided to take them off of the shelves again.  Dammit!  Now I have to wait until the 26th!  Fuck!

5/19/01
I haven't been very busy comics-wise lately.  I did visit the mall today, however, to browse the comic book store there.  I'm friendly with the owners of that place.  ONe of them first introduced me to John Constantine (and actually got me to purchase the $20 Hellblazer TPB on a whim...).  The owners aren't there, but some of their clerks are.  One of them is a fairly attractive chick (of course made more attractive due to the fact that she (1) works in a comic book store and (2) is discussing comics with the other clerk).  She kind of makes me uncomfortable by constantly asking if I need help with anything.  What is she implying?

I try to locate the Star Trek comic I am looking for, but it isn't there.  The New Frontier one-shot is only there in TPB form, and I am not spending $15 on a $6 one-shot.  I bolt out of there and drive about 15 minutes to another comic store.  This store usually has a nice selection of recent (from the past year) back issues, so I'm betting they'll have the New Frontier comic.

As I enter there's a Pokemon card tournament going on.  My bet pays off!  They have two copies.  I grab one and the new issue of American Century my usual shop didn't have for some reason and pay.  Good day for Star Trek comics.

5/5/01
I ordered Star Trek II:  The Wrath of Khan on DVD from Columbia House.  I am selling my VHS copy of the movie to make up the cost.

5/2/01
Bought new comics on my lunch hour.  Pre-ordered the two new Transformers DVDs from buy.com.  They better come before the end of next week!

4/28/01
Finished ST:NW Once Burned while on vacation in Las Vegas.  It made an excellent alternative to gambling.

4/26/01
While looking at the New York, New York hotel in Las Vegas, I imagined how cool it would be to see Spidey web-swinging around the replicas of famous NYC buildings.

4/25/01
Bought new comics on my lunch hour.  I did not read any of them that day, since I am saving them for the plane ride to Las Vegas tomorrow.

4/24/01
Yes!  East Coast Comics' website is back online.  I will be placing a large TPB order tomorrow!

4/23/01
I finished reading Star Trek: New Frontier - Fire on High.  I planned on starting a non-geek book next, since I will be on an airplane with friends this Thursday.  I'd rather not be reading a geek book on that plane with them.  However, I was on such a New Frontier high that I just went ahead and started Once Burned, book five of the Captain's Table series.  I bought this at Tower at 40% off.  This book finally reveals what happend to Captain Calhoun on the U.S.S. Grissom.  I'm going to try and finish it before Thursday.  I may start reading Ender's Game to take with me on the plane.  Otherwise, I will just be reading comics during the flight.

4/22/01
I bought a DVD-ROM which only cost me $50.  Installed it and was playing DVDs in 10 minutes.  The first DVD I put in to test the drive was Transformers: The Movie.

I was struck with the urge to own the G.I.Joe the Movie DVD.  I immediately left the house, drove to Circuit City, and bought it.

Next, I went to Tower Records to browse and, to my surprise, found that all of their books were 40% off - even the "graphic novels!"  I searched through everything that was available.  The sex and drugs sections were gutted, and there were very few books in the science section that looked interesting.  There was a hardcover copy of the book on the biological cause of rape that I'd been waiting to buy in paperback, but it was more than I wanted to spend on it, even at 40% off.  Picking through the fiction sections, there was nothing of Vonnegut's, Chabon's, or Palahniuk's.  I ended up coming away with two Star Trek: New Frontier books that I planned on buying eventually and the Grrl Scouts TPB.

I asked the clerk if Tower was phasing out the book section.  He said he wasn't sure and that maybe they were just trying to dump all of the books that've been sitting on the shelves for years.  Also, he mentioned that they would be enlarging their DVD section, to which I replied with a sincere "Oh, cool!"

Also, it's worth mentioning that I could have gone to a party that night, but decided not to attend for ethical reasons.
