QULIN --- Bill Gene Shepard, 71, of Qulin died at his home Friday Sept. 14, 2001. He was born Sept. 26, 1929 at Holcomb.
Mr. Shepard worked at Darling Store Fixtures in Piggott, Ark., and retired in 1992. He joined the U.S. Army in 1951. On April 4, 1950 he married Mary Evelyn Ordway in Poplar Bluff. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Rose Chambers of Mathiasville and Brenda Shepard of Qulin; two sons, Jim Shepard of Qulin and Tom Shepard of Cape Girardeau; four sisters Loretta Deering of Kennett, Betty Crawford of Stockton, Calif., Willie Crone of Hayward, Calif., and Erma Henderson of Qulin; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held today at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Leon Pyles officiating. Burial will be in the Carolla Cemetery near Qulin.

Funeral services for Areland R. Slayden, a 45-year-old truck driver who burned to death in a traffic accident near House Springs, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Whites Funeral Chapel at Fisk. Burial will be in the Berger Cemetery. The minister will be the Rev. James Black and the Rev. L. Hale. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today.
Slayden was married on July 23, 1973, to the former Barbara Kempff at Pevely, Mo. She survives him. He was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Also surviving are 4 sons, Raymond Slayden, Arnold Slayden,Areland Slayden, Ft. Carson, Colo., Steve Slayden, of the home, and Mike Slayden Bay Shore, Mo.;one Daughter,Sherry Slayden of the home; three step-daughters,Kathryn,Kempff, Dianna Kempff, and Julie Kempff, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. Stella Forrest Slayden, Qulin; a sister, Mrs. Innes Williams, O'Fallon, and three brothers, Dallas Slayden, St. Louis, Forrest Slayden, Qulin, and Lavern Slayden, Bakersfield, Calif.

QULIN --- Donald Gene Stratton, 63, of Qulin died Saturday, April 24, 1999 at his residence. He was born Oct. 28, 1935 in Butler County. Mr. Stratton had been a resident of the Qulin area most of his life. He was a truck driver for Gateway Transportation in St. Louis. on June 30, 1955, he married Rachel Bennett. She survives.
Survivers also include three daughters, Debra Bell of ST. Louis, Lavonna Bowers of Rolla and Amanda Stratton of Qulin; two sons, Donnie Stratton of Qulin and Bryan Stratton of St. Louis; a sister, Lila Taylor of Qulin; eight grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 6 p.m. tonight at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ernie Bennett Jr. officiating.
