Finally, there's a chance to experience the challenges of 'Survivor' without the humiliation of being selectively edited to look like a jerk before getting unceremoniously voted off the show. The High Rock 10K Adventure Challenge combines an endurance adventure run with five mystery events located throughout the course. And no, you won't be told what the mystery events are until you get there -- though they will say they don't depend on physical strength or special equipment. You'll compete in teams of two members, which must run together at all times and cooperate in the events. Besides the main event, there will be food and refreshments, prizes, games and a 50-yard dash for children under 7. There will be no race day admission so sign up ASAP at the New York Adventure Racing Association Web site, www.nyara.org. -- Bill Edwards

The annual Race for Freedom combines a competitive 5K race with a worthy fundraising opportunity. All proceeds from the race will benefit Teen Challenge, an organization that provides Brooklyn teens with after school programs, crisis counseling and drug rehab. If you raise more than $15 in paid pledges, your registration fee is waived and if you raise $100 or more you'll be put into a drawing for special prizes. For those who aren't into competitive racing, there's also a one-mile fun walk and kids aged 4-12 can participate in pee-wee races. Stick around after the race for an awards ceremony and free food. -- Bill Edwards

For every friend of yours that joins the club during this event (or through the month of May), you'll have your membership term extended for two free months. For the run, both you and your friend will start on East Drive near 99th and heading north you'll make a loop around the upper end of the park and across the 72nd Street Transverse to finishing where you started. Awards will be given out in all age groups during a ceremony at the finish line. -- Bill Edwards
