WELCOME TO MATH ON THE BEARS TEAM

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and tell you a little about what to expect in math this year.  My name is Alison Vroome (yes, like the sound a motorcycle makes) and I am the Bear's Team math teacher.  I am excited about teaching you math and know we will have a lot of fun this year!

In sixth grade, you will be learning many new math concepts and will be reviewing some of the ideas you've already learned.  Some of the topics we will study this year are; graphing and data collecting, fractions, decimals, percents, measurement, problem solving, geometry, and pre-algebra, just to name a few.  Not only will you practice what you learn through homework assignments, but you will also show me that you've mastered the concepts through tests, quizzes, projects, and fun class games.

I know you will come to class on the first day of school with lots of questions about math and I will also have much more information to present to you at that time.  However, I will go ahead and tell you that for math you will need a one-inch, 3- ring notebook filled with loose- leaf notebook paper.  Also, we will divide your math notebook into four sections, so you will need four dividers for your notebook.  Last, you will need plenty of pencils and a red checking pen with you at all times in math class.  On the first day of class, I will discuss with you anything else you might need for class or for the rest of the Bear's team.

Parents, please feel free to contact me this year by phone or by e-mail if you have any questions or concerns.  I will work hard to ensure that your child has the best possible math education and that they have a smooth transition into middle school.  Students, I look forward to a fun and successful year with each of you on the Bear's team!

       Sincerely,

       Mrs. Vroome
