Let them be like a snail which melts away as it goes, like a stillborn child of a woman, that they may not see the sun. -Psalm 58:8

The Problem
Snails do not melt.

The Answer
The language of Psalms is highly symbolic. This is especially apparent in Psalms 58:6-8, in which metaphors illustrate the transition between effective to useless. In this instance, "melt" is a simple way to describe the trail left by a self-depleting snail.
