These are some of the best 'small' angling boats out there on the second hand market. All are very good buys in their own class and easily a better choice than a new boat at the same price. They are by no means the only good boats out there some of the most popular. All of the price ranges stated below are what can be acheived at bargain prices. Many are often more expensive
The Norman 20. 20 ft long. Planing hull with great cabin space. Toilet and sink. Will fish 4 and room for all your gear. A quite heavy but roomy boat. Extensive storage locker space and very little lean. A great boat on the move or at anchor and probably the best boat in its class. Expect to pay €4000 - €5500 depending on engine size and age. 75 HP - 90 HP recomended.
The Shetland 535. 18 ft long. Semi planing hull with decent cabin space. A very fast boat. Will fish 2 comfortably but can squeeze 3 and room for all your gear. Easy launch and recovery. Very fuel economicalExpect to pay €3000 - €4000 depending on engine size and age. 30 HP - 60 Hp recomended.
The Pilot Dory. 18 ft long. Cathedral hull with small cabin space and lockable door. The cabin has good head room and allows access to bow hatch for easy anchor work. This is one of the most popular angling boats out there and rightly so. Not the prettyest boat around but by far one of the best It can easily accomadate 4 anglers and their gear on its ample deck space. This is a boat meant for fishing and performs best at anchor being very stable indeed. Its cathedral hull and unaerodynamic shape however make for less speed and more petrol. Expect to pay between €3000 - €4500 with a mediocre engine. 40 HP - 60 HP recomended.
The Orkney Day Angler 19. 19 ft long. Semi V hull. This boat is not too old and will cost you. The best of both worlds - a walk in cabin/helm and large deck space. Will easily fish 4 - 5 and your gear. Stable at anchor and plenty of locker space. Ample speed with a good engine. Expect to pay €12000 - €17000 depending on age and engine. 75 HP - 90 HP recomended.
The Orkney Day Angler 24. 24 ft long. Semi V hull. This boat is not too old and will cost you. The best of both worlds - a walk in cabin/helm and large deck space and a wide beam. Will easily fish 6 and your gear. Stable at anchor and plenty of locker space. Ample speed with a good engine. Expect to pay €18000 - €22000 depending on age and engine. 90 HP - 125 HP recomended.
The Warrior 175. 19 ft long. This is a fine roomy boat capable of safe distance fishing. It will fish 4 - 5 in comfort. Its large deck space and small cuddy with a semi cathedral hull make for an excellent fishing platform. It is a fast and reliable boat with ample storage space. Expect to pay €16,000 - €20,000. 75HP - 90 HP recomended.
The Warrior 165. 16.5 ft long. The winner o 'Boat of the year' in various magazines. Will fish 4 in comfort. Cuddy and good deck space. These are relatively new boats. Fish well at anchor. Semi cathedral hull. Expect to pay €6000 - €7000. 50 HP - 60 HP recomended
The Trophy 2305. 21 ft long. This has to be the ultimath small angling boat around. It has it all. Small but neat cabin with lockable door. Comfortable helm, semi planing hull, ample deck space for 5 anglers, lots of rod holders, internal fuel tank, locker space, live bait well, insulated fish box and anchor storage. Its walk around design is ingenious. It is an expensive boat however. Expect to pay €15000 - €20000. 90 HP - 125 HP recomended.
