THE ART OF TALE~WEAVING
Weaving has always intrigued me. I tried it as a child, making looms from cardboard boxes. And of course I had one of those potholder making looms you'd use with brightly colored nylon loops. Not exactly great art.

Once I began writing again, somehow something clicked. The earthy, historic, artistic act of weaving was exactly what I was doing when I wrote. Within the context (loom) of a story, I bring dark threads and light together to mix and marry into a tapestry depicting a place in time, and life there. It is not by accident that my character, Jolie', in Rose's Kiss, is a weaver. She really is the story-teller. Out of all of the characters I've ever written (and they all are a part of the writer, in one form or another), Jolie' is the most like me.  She is the weaver, as I am.

Don't be freaked out. Originally one of my characters, a guy named Yowgil; was a nasty little fellow and had only 1 eye. Further drafts of the story refined Yowgil down to an annoying, pretty-boy who had a real mean streak. The name, "Yowgil", which was completely made up, was changed to Youghal, which is an authentic Irish name.
Hence, the eye you see to the left is known affectionately as the "Eye of Yowgil".
