In this section, you'll find info about the original japanese version of Final Fantasy VI and
 some of the differences between the original and American versions.

The Language

Yes, well, here you have it. The main difference between the two versions is, of course, the language. The American version is in English, and the original Japanese version is in Japanese, no surprises here.

The Name of the Game

Right, here it is. The original version's title is Final Fantasy VI, and the American version is called Final Fantasy III. (See the Game section for an explanation). The American version was, however, rereleased for the Playstation with the original title Final Fantasy VI. You want proof of the title mixup? Alrighty then:

The Menu

The menus are pretty much the same. I'll be so kind as to translate the Japanese menu for those poor sods who can't read Japanese :)

So, what's the point of that, you might ask. Well, some people may find it interesting
that in the original version, "Relics" were already called Accessories, which they were
also called in the English version of FF7. In the same way, "Gp" was calld Gil, the currency
used in the English versions of later FFs.

Furthermore, the characters had job classes in the japanese version. They can be

Tina - Madousenshi = Magic Warrior

Locke - Boukenka = Adventurer

Edgar - Mashiinarii = Machinery

Cyan - Samurai

Shadow - Assassin

Sabin - Monk

Some of the characters also have different names. The most obvious one is Terra,
whose original name is Tina. The name change might be due to the fact, the Tina
isn't a common name in Japan, but it sure is in the west. Furhtermore, Sabin's
original name is (Masshu) Mash, Cyan's name is (Kaien) prnounced Kayen, and
emperor Gestahl's name is (Gasutora) Gastra. A final note: Locke's original name
(Rokku) is pronounced Lock
