Gumbel leaves CBS to pursue rap career
NEW YORK, NY--Bryant Gumbel announced that he is leaving his post as anchor of The Early Show on CBS, where he spent two and a half years.  Gumbel is now working towards his career as a rapper.

"After more than 17 years of hosting a morning news program, I feel it's time to move on to pursue my career as a rapper," Gumbel said in a statement.  "Besides if John Tesh can release some new age crap, I know I can succeed with my gangster rap album."

Gumbel is working with producer John Lee of High Jams Records on his new gangster rap career.  He is hard at work in producing his first rap album under the stage name, Pimp Dawg Gumbel.

The album titled "Life in da Press" is due out next March.

The album is a collection of songs Pimp Dawg (Gumbel) wrote in a rage against the news industry.  The songs are about both his early days on
The Today Show as well as work on The Early Show.

The album also deals with the many affairs he has had and race issues.  Pimp Dawg's first song is titled "Big White Boss Man."  It is about Pimp Dawg's conflict with executive producer of
The Early Show, Steve Friedman.

"It was a struggle for me to make a name for myself in the news industry because of my race and that's what 'Life in da Press' is all about," Pimp Dawg said.  "All I know is that my album is going to be full of mad flavor."

"Pimp Dawg gots a lot of potential in the industry," Lee, his producer said.  "I see big things happening for him."

This is a big move for Pimp Dawg who has been in the journalism business for over 25 years.  But Pimp Dawg will remain true to his roots.  He has formed NWP (Niggaz with Press).  NWP is a studio that produces rap albums for African Americans journalists.

Rumors have been circulating that Pimp Dawg is trying to recruit NBC's
Today Show host Al Roker to join NWP.

"Yeah me and Big Pappa Al had words," Pimp Dawg said.  "Al says he's content with
The Today Show, but we're meeting next Thursday to discuss matters further."

Roker was not available to comment on the issue.  "Al will come around soon enough," Cameron Sharp, Roker's spokesman said.  "I think he's getting sick of Matt (Lauer) getting to use all the good jokes.

"Plus we hear him rapping every time he uses the shitter," he said.
