ST. PETERSBERG, Fla.--While on spring break, Don Richardson, a 18-year old high school senior tried his luck with his new dance at a Soul Train dance contest. He finished 34th out 35 contestants. |
His dance, the "funky Frankenstein" defeated only one contestant, Greg Anderson--the only other "white boy" in the contest. "All that practice," Richardson said in shock. "I thought I was up there. I was really on tonight. I mean I nailed that son of a bitch." Contest organizer Jamal Brown almost hurt himself laughing while watching Richardson. "I tell you what, it's something else when we get white boys like him in here," Brown said. "I fell off my chair and spilled my drink you know what I'm saying? And I was like damn, white boy is trying hard." Anderson was impressed with Richardson's moves. "He was really getting down out there," he said. "He definitely deserved to beat me. In fact, I think he was held back because he was white and that's wrong." "He was off-beat the entire song," Shanika Martina, one of the event's judges said. "That's not even on our scoring sheet because it's a given. You need to be on beat. I don't know what the hell he was trying to do out there, but it scared the crap out of me." Richardson is not protesting the results and is even considering entering again next year. "I know where I could have picked up some points," he said. "I'll come back and show what a cracker can do." |
