Understudy 'ruins' play
The cast of Anything Goes (above) performs in the final dress rehersal before Joe Newman (below) ruined the show with his sub-par lighting performance
KENT, OHIO--The Comstock High School production of "Anything Goes" got less than favorable reviews from fans and actors after Joe Newman, a freshman, was forced into working the lighting for the show.

"I had no idea what I was doing out there," said Newman, who was working on his first production.  "I was just an understudy because I didn't get an acting part in the play."
Kent Matthews, a senior, was the lighting director, but did not show up on opening night.  "I don't know where the hell Matthews was," said director Susan Fay.  "But that's why we have understudies.  This kid must have never paid attention."

"He ruined my last show," said senior Kyle Patterson.  After a dramatic pause he continued saying, "this meant everything to me.  I will never forgive him.
"I thought things went alright," said Newman.  "It was shaky at the start, but once I got the hang of things, it went alright."

"The dumb ass had the spot light on the third chorus boy during my solo," said Patterson.  "I couldn't believe it.  I cried on stage.  I wish Matthews would have been here."
Reportably Matthews was getting "baked" in the parking lot.

"I totally lost track of time," said Matthews, still with red, glazed over eyes.  "Then me and Mac went to 7-11 to get some Munchos dude.  That was the shit."

After taking a lot of heat, Newman has decided to retire from theatre.  "I guess it really wasn't my thing," he said.  "They didn't give me an acting part and then I apparently did something wrong with the lighting.  So I guess I'll hang them up."

As for Matthews, he still thinks the show has not started.  "How would I know what happened at the show," he said.  "There's still an hour before it starts."
