Local man Jeff Beckonridge has had trouble with his new iMac, including his mouse (below). |
LINCOLN, Neb--After his old Compaq PC crashed for the tenth time in two days, Jeff Beckonridge, a 24-year-old grad student at the University of Nebraska decided to purchase a new Apple iMac. After his initial joy of having a new computer, Beckonridge was confused to find out that his new mouse "didn't have a damn right-click button." |
"I went to copy some text," Beckonridge said, "but I couldn't right-click. At first I thought that I was just flat out doing it wrong, but come to find out Macs don't have right-click buttons." Beckonridge called customer service for Apple requesting a new mouse. "They told me that they didn't have one (a mouse with a right-click)," Beckonridge said. "So I asked, 'How the hell am I supposed to right-click then?' They said something like if I hit Apple-Option-Menu or some shit while hitting the mouse it would work. I don't know. It's some sort of rocket science. These computers are really advanced." To use the right-click function like a PC, the user must click the mouse while holding down the Control key. That is all. |
Beckonridge's move to the Macintoshed based computer came after he got "fed up with Bill Gates and his money stealing ways." "I heard this Steve Jobs guy was pretty cool," he said. "My friend said he's not just interested in money like Bill 'Money Bags' (Gates). Besides, Macs are way cooler looking. The thing looks like a lamp. Who doesn't love that?" Beckonridge is having trouble getting used to his new computer though. "It's wierd," he said. "After I got done with the whole right-click fiasco, I had problems opening programs that weren't on the desktop. I couldn't find the Start button anywhere." Stacey McMullen, a Customer Service Representative at Apple Inc. expressed her concern about the frequency of Beckonridge's calls. "He never stops," she said. "We have a policy of staying with customers so they feel special. So whenever he calls, I have to take it. I have to guide him how to turn stuff on and off. I can't believe this guy's in grad school." Beckonridge has been happy with McMullen's service. "I tell you what, she has saved my ass quite a few times," he said. His biggest dissappointment with the new iMac is that it didn't come standard with Microsoft Office. "I'm going to get that next week," said Beckonridge. |
