A LITTLE PIECE OF ME

Finally, a few words about myself and the site. The site has been something I have wanted to do for a long time now. But, as you do, I kept putting it off and doing other things instead. At the end of the day this worked to my advantage. Call it ' The luck of the Irish ' if you will. Because once I made my mind up that time was right to go ahead with the site I stummbled upon some newly released documents concerning the trials of the 15, so called, leaders of the 1916 Rising and a full list of all those men who died in action during the Rising. Under the 75 years secrets act new information is released daily. Some of which ends up in libraries. I know there are plenty of sites out there that tell the story of the men and women of 1916. Some great sites at that. But as well as telling their story I opted for a page or two of documented lists concerning the trials and deaths of those brave people who fought during the 1916 Rising. It is not just based around the same old familiar names. On this site you will find the names of everybody who died as a result of taken up arms for Ireland during the Rising. ( Place of death and date of death is also included along with most names ) What had, in the past stalled me, was that I was looking around for a full list of the dead. I thought it only fair in the context of the site. Once I had found such a list the site took only a week to put together. 1916 is something we are brough up on, in schools, here in Ireland. ( History been divided into two parts in the schools here. Irish history and World history ) But also important to the site are the ballads. As a kid they played a big part in my life. A daily dose of ' The Wolfe Tones ' was the earliest lessons in Irish history. Their ballads educational and learned off and sang back, in my head, as I sat through any Irish history exam. Today their tunes still ring out and still mean so much to me.

Above is just a simple map of Ireland for any visitors to the site, who don't live in Ireland, so they can work out where one County to the next is. The Rising in 1916 took place in Dublin on the East coast. The only other Country that it was thought any sort of fighting would occur was County Cork. But this failed to happen.

Regarding the design of the site ? The whole idea was to keep it simple. I wasn't looking for anything with bright flashing neon lights and special effects. I reserved that for my other site. I selected one or two tunes, as background music, on pages that I thought the tunes would blend in well. But I found a lot of the midis to be poor in quality and some to sound nothing like the tunes in question. I limited the amount gifs and jpgs I used. Mainly stuck with the same few on every page. A mixture of me not wanting to overdo it and, a simple fact, that most Irish gifs / jpgs on the net are Leprechauns and St. Patrick's day crap. Stereotypical Irish junk. The drunk doing a jig and the pot o' gold. Things I would never use or put near any site I ever make.

As for myself. Without going into too many personal details. ( Like pointing an arrow at my house ) All I will say is that I am from the Northside of Dublin. A well known working-class area. As Dublin people will tell you ' On the Northside that about narrows it down to every area '. I'm 33-years-old. I love to visit the old sites of the Rising. You may think that living in Dublin you would get a bit fed up with places you are familiar with. But Kilmainham goal ( Jail ) has to be witnessed to understand the pull it can have on a person. I have lost count the number of times I have been there. Be it that the history behind the place gives its dark passages an eerie feel, it just has to be experienced to get that full feeling it brings with it. The crosses in the courtyard to mark the execution places of the leaders of the Rising and the bullet holes still visible in its old walls. Other than that my life is taken up by a mixture of work and music. I like a variation of music. But find traditional the best of the best. The old style of sean-nos singing.
