The DUNBARS of Taupo

This is a page about the Taupo Dunbar family, and is designed for family
and friends who have either moved out of town or are travelling overseas.

Hi I’m Ray Dunbar. I am a New Zealander living in Taupo, a small town in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand. I’m 63 years old, and married to Carol (My English Rose). We have three children all of whom have flown the nest. We now have three grandchildren, Nicola has two boys Joshua and Nicolas, and Tricia has a daughter Abby.

I'm of Scottish extraction, my father was a Dunbar, and my mother a Graham, both well known Scottish familys. Both of my parents were born in New Zealand, my Grandfather Robert Dunbar was from Ayrshire in Scotland.
Carol was born and bred in Portsmouth England, living there happily until I dragged her away from her family to live on the other side of the world. She is now more "Kiwi" than the Kiwi's. I met her when I was in the Royal New Zealand Navy, doing some of my training in Portsmouth.

I served with the RNZN from January1960 until June1974, as an Ordnance Artificer. I served on Royal Navy Ships during my training in UK, HMS Saintes, and Urchin, and afterwards on the Royal New Zealand Navy Ships HMNZS Royalist, Waikato, and Blackpool.

I now work as a self employed engineering maintenance man, fixing sawmills, geothermal plant, hydro stations, and anything else that is dirty and smelly and dusty.

This is a picture of Carol, Wal and Me on our front deck at home.

Carol and I are outdoors people, we love hiking, camping, and just being outdoors. We have two English Setter dogs called  Wallis and Harley who need walking every day, and the couple of kilometres we cover walking them keeps the us reasonably fit.  We spend quite a bit of time at our caravan at Pukehina beach, an hour and a half drive from home.
