Beginning to play guitar in Australia Rick listened to early and contemporary Blues and R & B artists such as Lightning Hopkins, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Johnny Winter and Jimi Hendrix. Rick went on to study jazz under Sydney Session Ace Dean Kerr and discovered
such artists as Joe Pass, Django Reinhardt and Ted Greene.

After Moving to the States Rick studied in California further involving himself in Combo Music.
After a couple of years he joined cover/original bands in the Denver/Boulder area such as
the Blitz Girls, the Pedestrians and ULU.

The Foster Brothers represent a new freedom of expression in the Blues Rock arena for Rick.
He appreciates the artistry of Stevie Ray and does write some originals for the band.
