Christopher Joyce - Trumpet

Christopher Judd Joyce was born in Chicago, raised in Connecticut, and now lives in the Chicago suburbs with his wife Mary and new daughter Emma.

Chris graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with majors in Music and English. While Chris was a trumpet major in college, he has also performed as a guest artist with the IWU Wind Ensemble as principal tuba. He was also well regarded for his highly specialized piano skills and unique repertoire.

Chris also co-founded several spin-off groups of the Franklin Park Brass. Twenty Six Feet of Christmas is a seasonal group that is well known in bookstores throughout the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

Die Zaubertuben (The Magic Tubas) is an ensemble whose primary goal is to spread an understanding and appreciation of Mozart operatic duets with two tubas and accompaniment. This highly praised group has been lauded for its philanthropic performances in the greater Indianapolis area.

Chris has been the most prolific composer & arranger in the Franklin Park Brass. His many arrangements have been called "neat" and "swell" by even the toughest critics. His original compositions (Prelude in D, Interlude in D, Recessional in D) were heralded as "D-licious" during their recent premier.

Chris's performance highlights include a radio premier of a Benjamin Britten fanfare for solo trumpet on the BBC radio with the BBC Concert Orchestra.

After graduating, Chris worked in London for former Prime Minister of England, Sir Edward Heath. While in Sir Edward's employment, Chris compiled, edited, and co-wrote Sir Edward's most recent book on music and his life in politics.

Although Chris continues his career in the Information Technology industry, he actively performs as a freelance trumpet player in the Chicago area. His other part-time occupations include CEO, carpenter, plumber, and stand-up philosopher.

When not practicing the trumpet, Chris can be found dominating the other FPB members on the basketball court, playing golf, and learning the piano part to Petroushka.
