i wont start this

polemarch - xeo Leonidas

off,i'll say my goodby to the DL AS in a few days,i do hope a lot of you post here, and let this old gal go out in grand style, like she should, fighting till the last breath and heart beat.

Small note from cute little tiger girl, isn’t that what Ata did, fight till the last breath and heart beat? Then why were there so many complaints about that? Explain that to me ‘cause I really don’t get it.

Well then I'll start

Atalante Xanthippos

seen the fact that I've got some time now and I'm not sure if I'll get to it if I postpone it.

How I ended up here? This is going to be a boring story so I suggest you just scroll down and click to go to the next message *S*

About one and a half year ago my generally much liked classic teach ordered us (the poor classic students from 5Va) to write a paper (or however you call it in English). Me, very depressed at the time *LOL*, picked as subject death in the ancient world. Should never have done that, very, very depressing subject. And finding information wasn't too easy too. One day my mother got me some links to sites about the ancients ones. AS was on the list too. So I joined. FYI I hadn't had internetaccess for longer than a month back then. I didn't know at all what the Hades an internetcommunity was in the first place, so I felt kinda lost here. If that first day the people at the chatroom wouldn't have been so incredibly nice and kind and helping me find great sources I wouldn't have logged in a second time. But they did.

I could give you a detailed report how I ended up getting the name I have now, but lets just stick to it that I became a Xanthippos. And I happen to be damned proud of that! eventhough I didn't even know who they guy was when I joined *LOL*

And being a Xanthippos put me in contact with Braas, who really took me by the hand and gave me the big tour and invited me into the DL and Marathon. "Braas you're the best friend I could wish for *hug*"

Before I start thanking all the other wonderful people I met here (am I sounding as if I just got an Oscar? Well being allowed in here felt definitely like winning something) some nice words about the DL and Marathon. The DL: feminism still has some work to do there *LOL*, but I'll keep believing in Daffy for polemarch. And Marathon, well that's my home. The place people like me for following Latin and Greek classes at school instead of looking down on me for it. I loved everything I did there, I'll keep posting there the they pull the plug out and I don't regret a thing. And hey, after that we can just continue somewhere else at the web. Place enough.

I could say something nice about everybody, but that would make the list so long and I'm deadly afraid I'm about to forget someone. To the person (s) I'm about to forget, it just means I loved you most. And I'll still make that list :P

Daffy I always wanted a big brother, but I'm having second thoughts about that. *S* It might sound dramatic, but you're the first real female friend I ever had.

Sib give me three more years and you WILL be afraid of the ugly ducklin :P (I suggest you start locking up your boyfriends and keep them away from me)

Kara and Xeo well you're the pater and mater familias of this group and don't you dare to threaten to leave us ever again 'cause next time I will have Radja get you back the hard way. *S*

Tara and Lost (if you'll ever read this) I'm really sorry we didn't get to do much posting together, I'm sure it would have been fun.

Ademus thank you for the necklace *S* but you know women, next time you go to Persia I'll expect something even bigger.

Strabo I still think your avatar would look more sexy with a scar.

Hermie *S* thank you for the potions, Marathon wouldn't have been the same without them that's for sure (although I really hope all the stuff gets lost in the big going down *LOL* It makes life way too complicated)

ShereKahn that head is on its way.

Aru you were a lousy taxiarch that should have invested much more time in his spy! instead of ignoring her for over half a year. *WG*

Rhesa, Tantalus and all the others that somehow managed to be not there everytime I'm online, I'm sure you're great people and I really hate this timedifference thing.

Last thing I like topics like this, the AS approval stuff, it's how I ended up getting engaged *LOL* and you're all invited at the wedding. Daf I expect you to catch that bouquet *WS*

Love

Atalante

WEll then I'll REALLY start.....

A Tissue Please...Really, its only a cold...

BRASIDAS Xanthippos

Fellow league members, I know I will forget someone, but what the heck, I'm only a Spartan and we are terrible when it comes to names.

First I must say a warm "thank-you" to Xeo. Way back, on my first day here, he introduced himself and really made me feel welcome. I count you as a true friend Xeo.
Kara, on the other hand, shocked the s**t out of me the first time I chatted with her*LOL* I'm only kidding Kara. I am touched that you would put up with all the questions I've pestered you with about ancient Greece and you definitely are the life of the party here!

Daphne....what I have to say to you is none of anyone else's business *S*

Atalante, you are an incredible person, a joy to have met...even if you wear wooden shoes. Our chats have been happy, sad, and everything in between -- but never dull.

Tara, be careful. All that ice cream and Oreo cookies seem to be ruining your figure...oh that's right, it's more than that. Stay in the best of health*S*

Sibylla my silly, smart friend from the state that can't figure out what a dimpled chad is.... Its been great discussing the new trends and dynamics of social drinking. Your kids have the best teacher in the world.*S*

Tantalus, fellow Spartan: EI TA EPI TAS. You have been a refreshing voice in this place filled with sissy Athenians. See you at PH in Sparta.

Sherekhan, our admiral, it has been a pleasure to fight the barbarian with you. You are a gentleman and a scholar. Bon chance! See you at PH, I hope.

Rhesa, you are nuts trying to be a journalist, but I wish you the best, and the perserverance to succeed. I know I will see you at PH. Thanks for getting me out of that Theban prison.

Theokrates, it has been an honor serving in battle with you. BTW get the damn fleet to Artemesium before we ALL DIE! *LOL* Hope to see you at our new home at PH.

Alexander, we kicked some a** fighting the Macedonians, didn't we? See you at PH.

Olympias, we didn't chat much. Must be you just don'tlike Spartans??? Or have you been listening to Xeo's propaganda?. See you at PH

Patroclus, I understand you are one of the sensible ones here and are joining Sparta at PH. See ya there.

To Lost, Aristotle, Strabo, Ademus and Periander -- WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU???? I hope you are all doing well. We miss you all.

We've come a long way . . .

poet & spy - Rhesa Alexandros

. . . and there's still a ways to go!

Brasidas: military man *grin* budding novelist and good friend all around . . . thanks for all the discussions we had on history and the news. I guess I'm crazy, pursuin' this kind of career, but I'm havin' fun, and I s'pose that's what really matters, right??

Olympias: your brand of insanity is infectious, sis! *hugs* Thanks for coming along with me to Jerusalem . . . yer not queasy at the sight of blood anymore, are ya? *grin*

Tantalus: honorable Spartan, very good friend, and one of the best writers around — and not just of stories, either *grin* It is truly a pleasure to know you!

Sibylla: You know, girl, your posts have always cracked me up. Thanks for the laughs, and for being so daring *s*

Daphne: You are definitely the queen around here *g* No-nonsense at times and VERY honest and straightforward . . . thanks for making me feel welcome at the deme when I first arrived . . .

Atalante: You are HILARIOUS! Thanks for the laughs, and for knowing how I feel when the school blues hit (way too often) . . .

Xeo and Kara: It's an honor to be a part of this group and to know both of you *s* Thanks for making me feel welcome . . . Kara, don't spend all of the polemarch's money *LOL* thanks for the laughs! And Xeo . . . thank you *s* I think that's all I can say . . . thanks a bunch.

Strabo: Wherever you are right now, I hope you're doing well *s* You're missed here.

Somatophylax . . . thanks for persuadin' me to help with our family forum. It was an honor and still is. Alixander . . . I haven't seen you around lately! Hope you're still not working the graveyard shift. Parmenion, how are you keeping? I'm doin' well here *s*

Hope to see you all at PH!

Note from small adorable tiger girl, Ata never tried to be funny.

A P.S. . .

Rhesa Alexandros

Tara . . . thanks for bein' a friend *s* And for helping me in the med tent *LOL* Hope you're doing well!

And Sib, I forgot to add . . . I still dig the Bistro. Keep groovin'!

At A Loss

Tantalus Leonidas

I’ll try to be laconic about this, in keeping with the Spartan tradition…

Xeo and Kara… I thank you for making me welcome, for being the equals of the Spartans in honor, and for being my friends. In my heart, you are the League.

Tara… looking forward to seeing you at PH, and someday meeting the “next generation” of our League from your neck of cyberspace!

Brasidas and Daphne… two people who represent my home away from home; the two I could count on to keep me true to The Upbringing when all around was Athenian decadence. See you in Sparta at PH!

Olympias… I thank you for making me welcome, and for the crash course in the differences between Athenian and Spartan thinking! I look forward to working with you at our new home in PH.

Rhesa… the former Theban slave who earns her keep as a Poet. You helped me solve a murder that could have ended my League career before it began. Before you, I couldn’t imagine that anyone made a living doing what you do. Now I can’t remember why I ever thought that. I look forward to many more adventures at PH.

Sibylla… Hetaira with a heart of gold. It was you who pointed me in Olympias’ direction when I first arrived. For that, I am in your debt.

Patroclus… it has been an honor having you in my Taxi; I suppose with your recent heroics you’ll probably be promoted out of it before too much longer. Hope to see you at PH…

Tariel… I’ve enjoyed our discussions of literature; best of luck on your book. If I don’t see you at PanHistoria, I’ll be tracking you down!

Uadjetramese Apilsin… Em hotep, Great Queen! I’m glad we rescued you – I bestow upon you the honor of being the only Persian I’ll suffer the presence of!

Leonidas… STAND AND DIE!

To anyone I may have missed, or may not have met – I hope you’ll follow us to PH, and I look forward to many more adventures by your side…

Laconic… Hmmm. Obviously these Athenians are corrupting me…

My turn

Daphne Leonidas

When I found AS I was amazed. Most of my life I had loved reading about Ancient Greece and I had at that point never met anyone who shared the same interest. It was a loney interest that I never talked about to other people.
I found AS like many other people by simply clicking a link at "Discovering Archaelogy" online magazine. My first day here I met some fellow Aussies who shared my interest. Infact they were enthusiastic about it. For the first time I felt comfortable talking about my interest in classical Greece and Egypt.Thoses Aussies are not member of the leauge but they are good mates none the less and I I would not be here if not for them. So if you see Sementaway or Lycurgus online, say g'day to them for me *S*

I dont remember how I met Xeo. I think he left a message at my oikos saying he liked the place. We got chating after that. And boy am I glad we did. Xeo your a great mate. You listen to my pathetic worries and dont judge me for them. You are a romantic at heart just like me. And you made your dreams true, you for work doing what many here would kill to do, you won a lovely wife, and you have integrity. What else could a person want in a friend?

Kara: Girlfiend I would trust you with my life. You're funny and you're post make me laugh but I like you for the side that you let me see. I dont know if you let everyone see it but your a caring woman who defends her friends to the death. Thankyou for counting me as one of them.

Tara: Mate good luck with the baby. And putting on weight is normal...dont wory about it *S*

Atalante: I think of you as my kid sister. I've loved every moment we have spent talking. Your a fine person and you stick to your guns. Deep down you know whats right for you *S*

Sibylla: Hello from across the ocean. I heard only crazy people live in Florida and having met you Im inclinded to agree (JOKING HERE). Seriously I have really enjoyed getting to know you, and we have a whole heap in common. One day I am going to drink bourbon on bourbon street with you!

Olympias: I reckon you and I could be twins in a past life. I really clicked with you and felt close to you as a mate in a pretty short period of time. Dont loose contact mate, I will miss you too much if you do. I know things are hectic for you but Im only an email away if you need to talk *S*

Alix: Your a crazy man *LOL* A veritable hero among men. A virtual Achilles (the invincible no less). A bronze age Heracles in a techo world. The fastest runner in Marathon if was for you that I wanted to change the Delian leagues motto to "learn to run faster than the rest", but ya know Bras just wouldnt let me. Not only that but you are the most handsome of men, why even the passing Donkeys smile at you...(IS that enough yet)?? I have had heaps of fun with you Alix. Let gram each other at PH *S*

ShereKhan: My friend you are one of the nicest gentlmen I have met in years. Come back soon...we need our navy *S*

Rhesa: Hey, thanks for giving me a second chance at being friends. Luck with the studies.

Patroclus: Havent known you long, but I now we are destined to be mates. See ya at PH

Strabo: where are you? I miss you. Come home soon.

Tanatlus: Hey fellow Spartiae, xome on over and strae in my campfire. Dont be a stranger at PH

Last but certainly not least To Bras: You know how I feel about you already. You're my special yankie man. No matter what happens you will always be one of my closest friends.

Th-th-thanks everyone!

ignored spy - Atheena Agis

Atheena is signing in greek...her translator wants to let you all know...How welcomed you made a deaf, speech impaired spy feel in the league..*only kidding*...

But Atheena would like to thank Daphne for putting up with her nonsense, Tantalus for his friendly gramming, Atalante for her charm, and most of all Patroclus for his undying affection...Sibylla, thanks for asking me to join the league and you watch yourself with Patroclus!!!

I shall take a stab at this *S*

still here - Alixander Alexandros

It began for me, well, its been over two years now. That ad in "Archaelogy" caught my eye. I joined AS and the DL immediately [the DL being one of my two very first groups]. When I first joined, we were experiencing a massive wave of a "germanic" invasion, sweeping down through Hellas, reaching all the way to a just built town of Marathon [no longer just a village]. Since those days, the deme of Marathon sprang to life, [and the town rebuilt as a city proper]. The older members had mostly faded off, to where ever they went *s*. Then you "young 'uns" started moving in, and I must admit I was lost in the inundations. We grew so fast it was hard to keep up. Now, our numbers have dwindled, but from those of us who remain, stand ready to keep the DL alive, in its new home at Pan Historia. I shan't name you by name-I would hate to forget someone. I hope to be seeing more of you at P-H.

*S*

A PS

ignored spy - Atheena Agis

Atheena would also like to mention Alixander of the huge coffers! You are a rich playboy aren't you? What about the poor courtesans of Athens???

Rhesa...Your posts are so interesting and well written.

And all the folks at the DL.

Sibylla, thanks again for signing me up!

sheesh one day I will learn to type(NT)

Daphne Leonidas

Arriving almost too late as usual…

Citizen - Ademus Artistides

Well, as that Great Earthquake approaches that will soon devastate AS, I feel like an ancient who is watching in horror as the world he has come to appreciate so much begins to shatter and fall around him. AS has been an amazing place for me, and I am very grateful for all those people who have made it possible.

I feel that I should apologise for being away for so long. While I have not been able to contribute to the Delian League or Marathon for some time, I assure you I have not forgotten. There is so much more that I would have liked to have done here. So many stories to tell. I hope to soon join with you all in exploring / creating the past at PH.

Aside from our dear Atalante, I have had little opportunity to chat with many of you. I seem to be in a time zone unto myself (?) and so alone I skulk around the edges of the League like a shadow. But I have read your stories and adventures with great pleasure.

The league has not been totally harmonious (the real one certainly wasn't!). But it has certainly attracted a lot of wonderful people, whose diverse contributions have made this a remarkable place. (I have remarked on it to many people!).

I thank you all for what you have done here. I will not name you all, since others have already covered the ground before me. But I would especially like to thank Periander, whose wonderful descriptive prose of hoplite battle first lured me into this place.

I hope to "see" you all again soon - in the taverns, or on the field of battle!

As one friend to several others

Strabo Alexandros

As AS dies it's quiet little death, taking Marathon and DL along....

Thank you to all my friends for a truly amazing time!

LOST pulled me in and started me off, then disappeared (*frown*)

Sib, Ata, Daph and Bras, who tolerated my early attempts at RP with such grace.

Rhesa and Olympias, for being my friends

Xeo, you kept us all in line.

Kara, for your unique view on just about everything.

Leila, who challenged my writing to be better, and pushed me in RP and RL to do better, too.

And to all of you who made this place such an adventure, my deepest gratitude.

My apologies for being soooo out of touch. It seems my RL has gone just as crazy as AS, and both at once. I shall do my best to stay in touch, please do the same. If not at AS or PH, use my email webroger2000@hotmail.com.

Thank you one and all.

little note from the cutest tiger around, Ata feels really hurt not being called ‘friend’ therefore she will not speak to this person anymore :P

Kalispéra ó Megas Thalasstrategós!

Thalasstrator - Theokrastes Harmodios

To my buddy and faithful comrade-in-arms! I sincerely hope you find time to read this, Lord ShereKhan!
As the Grand Fleet set sail again Northward, I have instructed a flute-player to play a whining, sorroful but fitting song-of-goodbye for you in true deferrence of a mighty sailor and trierarch! With sails lowered we all salute you for your contributions and wish you a 'Trés Bon Voyage par la Vie!'

How I ended up with ya folks!*S*

A miserable Tourmarch *S* - Theokrastes Harmodios

I promised myself not to read this thread, since I hate goodbyes and to comemorate over past things. Tears begin to drop and the mind goes a bit miserable, but having read all of you guys' post, I found no other alternative but to post myself, so here's my story!
In fact I had in my 'favorites'-menu the url to AS lingering for about two or three month before I did something about it, that is, checked it out. And then only because of sheer boredom during a surfing session! Hmmmm, maybe many more such moments should happen!*S* I'd saved the url as a future reference for my Q&A-column at AskMe.com initially, you see! Well, eventually I found the communities I wanted to belong to, although registering at first seemed to fail completely. I first tried at Rome and when that failed I finally succeeded registering in Athens under my current name!
The greatest honor that has been bestowed me has been the trust that so many have put in my ability to lead some of the league's valuable fleets!*S* In addition I was appointed a 'guardian' of the DL. That was indeed a merit which I take great pride in! Thank you, Xeo! I also would like to extent a thanks to (what, is this the Oscars or...????*S* - quite fitting, thoug, since it's happening this weekend anyway...)
...Lord Bras for every help and support he's given and the friendly reception!
Lord Xeo for likewise a friendly and good-humored approach and the above awesome merit!*S*
Lord Sherekhan (Dude, where art thou?*S*) for so much interesting co-opts!!! Lady Sib - well what can I say! - No, I really mean WHAT CAN I say?*S* Funny, witty, pushy,
such a woman that there isn't many of!*S* Kara! Thanks for your care and comfort! (Hey, everyone else has to figure this out for themselves!*LOL*)
Patroclus, dude, partner and true, irreverent brother-in-arm! I don't know if I ever would like to be your CO, but sure hell would like to have you at my side any time the tough gets goin'!*S* Now, move your a** up from the cartwheel or cabin or where ever you're hiding, get over to the 'Epi' and have the bandon handed over to you!*S*

And, sure, I have omitted a great many from this 'oscarian' thanks-list, but I sure have had a great time here, found a lot of new, funny friends too! When my strange 'cohabit' is over at PH, I will get to work there as diligently as I hope I've been here!

CYA ALL AT PH!!!

Hey, what is the guy thinking stealing Ata’s joke???????

Me next!

Olympias Aristocratos

I hate goodbyes. And here we are, saying goodbye to all of Ancient Sites! I've come to love this place, and I'll miss it when it's gone. But the best parts will go on, since the League and Marathon are moving to a new home. I've had fun elsewhere in AS, but nothing I loved like I have Marathon and the League.

It is, of course, all the people I've met in both that have made this such a great place to be. I've missed you all during this time that life has been too hectic to allow me to show up very often. It's a huge relief to know that I won't lose contact with you, since we have a home to move to.

If I forget anyone, forgive me! It's not that I care any less, it's that I occasionally think the days when I used to bleach my hair blonde sunk in. I have occasional flare-ups of being a dumb blonde even though I'm no longer blonde!

Xeo - I am so glad I met you on my first day back to AS, after my years of absence. AS had changed so much since the early days back in 97, when you could only be a Roman. A friendly person was exactly what I needed while I adjusted to the changes, and you have been a great friend from day one! Thank you for inviting me into Marathon and the League that first day. I've been proud to consider them my home ever since.

Kara - Girlfriend, you are great! I love talking with you, and I love your posts! You have a great sense of humor, and you are so good at a difficult form of comedy… by post while in character. Once we move to PH and the war is over, let's go spend lots of Xeo's money on a huge shopping trip! I'll see if I can talk Tantalus into letting us borrow the 8th to carry everything home.

Sibylla - Lovely Libra Courtesan Cousin, you've been a delight to roleplay with and to talk with. It's too bad we never did go on that spy mission together, but a little thing like the war with Thebes got in the way. We'll just have to have more GNOs and trips to see wrestling together to make up for it! Or dig the scene at the Bistro together with all the other cool cats and hip chicks. And thank you for not letting me be antisocial when that was my inclination one day. The hello you wanted me to make blossomed into a truly amazing friendship. I'm indebted to you for it.

Daphne - We seemed to really connect, right from the start. I agree, we must have been twins or something in a past life! You are one of my dearest friends here on AS, and one of these days, I intend to meet you in real life and drag you out for a drink or ten somewhere. Meantime, I think you're stuck with me as a mate… I'm very difficult to get rid of. Little things like my job getting more demanding and AS going down in flames aren't about to stop me!

Brasidas - It's true that we didn't really have much chance to talk, and I've regretted that. For some reason that I don't even understand, I've been a little shy about just starting a conversation with you, but one of these days, I will… and then you'll wish I'd go back to being shy, since I'm rather verbose. (Can you tell? LOL)

Rhesa - My brand of insanity may be contagious, but you must have been insane before we met, since you were already working toward becoming a journalist! It's been great knowing you, and thanks for putting up with me on the trip to Jerusalem. I know I didn't post there… or anywhere!… as often as I should, but thank you for being patient with my attempts to keep up and my job's interference with the important things in life. Oh yeah, and don't forget… VIVA THE LONG TRAIN!

Strabo - WHERE ARE YOU?? Come back, you're missed!

Tara - We haven't talked much, but I've enjoyed talking with you when I have had the chance. And any child of Kara and Xeo would have to be a wonderful person in their own right. I'm looking forward to the chance to talk more with you when we move to PH.

Atalante - I love talking with you when we get the chance. I wish that there wasn't such a big time difference between here and there! Take good care of Radj and her cubs. Someday maybe we'll have a tiger in every home in Marathon. LOL

Tantalus - Last, but certainly far from least. I've enjoyed so much every one of our talks, and our roleplay via both gram and post. Talking with you has never failed to brighten my day, no matter how stressful and crazy things might get at work. Thank you for the amazing friendship, the long talks, the introduction to EHITU, and, well, everything! I'm looking forward to more talks and more RP when we move to PH.

I'll see everyone on PH, and hope that the weight of my job will lessen again, so I have time to crawl out from under it and spend time with you all again like I used to be able to do. I have missed you all while I've been working like a madwoman!

Thank You

the forgotten - ODIEFUCHS Timoleon

Most of you dont know me, or dont remember me, or just hate me. Well, I thank all of for great times and for putting up with me. I also thank you for not all voting to kick me out. I am sorry if I was a bother, but it was all fun. THANKS.

Love you all

“hey turn around, we cats don’t take it kindly having people observe us when we’re uhhh emotionally unstable. Just a little.”

This is really the last message from the cute, adorable little tiger girl with blue eyes and the voice of an angel. I’m speaking on behalf of Ata here, well actually she doesn’t know I’m saying this and she’ll kill me if she would. But I’m a little bit tired of hearing her complain about it time and time again and her being too chicken just to say it out loud. Seen the fact no one will read this junk it’s save to say it here. *G* Geez wonder how king Minos felt before getting the ears. *LOL* Okay, THE question, what the Hades is Xeo doing as a polemarch? Didn’t he sort of abandon the Delian Legue when the news broke out AS would go down, something like he not being able to stand it and would retire back to his real life? Now what kinda general is that if I may ask? What would have the Romans have thought of Julius Caesar if he would have been acting the tough guy all during the campaign but would have started running back home upon (finally!) seeing some barbarians? Don’t think he would have made is a dictator.
So while the world was crumbling down beneath us our leader ran away and I don’t know stuck his head in the sand or something leaving us with elections, just a few months before the apocalypse would take place. And when after a lot of effort Daf had finally found us a place to settle our brave commander suddenly showed up again grabbing the scepter. How democratic.
Something else. I know there has been a lot of nagging about Ata’s last posts at AS. That’s called dancing naked on tables hours before death comes to grab you, that is NOT her normal behaviour but obviously people were too stupid to realize that. And there was a plan behind all those seemingly spontaneous posts. If you’re interested, I’m quite sure the plan is still hanging around somewhere in her desk. And didn’t she do what our great polemarch had told AS we would, fight the Persians till our last breath. Don’t you think it quite embarrassing to think that the only people who actually did that are a 17 year old spy, a bignosed Roman bastard and some weird old Roman matrona. No brave Greek warriors to be seen there.
You might think Ata doesn’t care about the DL, but you didn’t know she had asked a guy to built her a server in case we wouldn’t be able to find a new place to post. The server actually exists (well it did, it’s taken down ‘cause it wasn’t needed). She would have run the place, it wouldn’t have been as fancy as PH, but it would have been something.
Think that was it. *Growl*
