Skateboard Parts Glossary
Deck A flat piece of laminated maple that for standing on with slanted parts.
Griptape A peace of colored sandpaper that has glue on the bottom to be stuck on the deck. Use to keep you on your board better.
Riser Pad-rubber pad that you put between your trucks and deck to absorb the impact of landing, make your ride taller and keep bolts tighter. Get the soft riser pad they work better at doing what their suppose to do.
Mounting hardware-8 nut and 8 bolts that are use to keep the deck on the trucks. If your going to put riser pad on them buy bolts that are longer then 1" inch or it might not fit or the setup always get loose a lot.
Trucks The metal part of the board that hold the axle for bolting the wheels on. Also allow the skateboard to have steering capability. Axle nut use to keep wheel from spinning off .
Bushings- The two urethane pieces that allow your truck to steer your board. Softer bushing will make your trucks has a more loose feeling good for steering, but not as stable as hard bushing are good for people that like skating very fast like vert. I stick with medium hard bushing cause it just right. It all depends on how you like to ride your board. Replace if Damage.
Bushing cups-The cups that are on the bushing that helps it steer and keep bushing from chipping. Replace them if it bent or cracked.
Kingpin-The bolt on the bottom of the trucks that use to hold the bushing cup, bushings together with a nut on the bottom. Tighten the bolt to make it a tighter ride, loosen the bolt to make your ride looser.
Wheels Usually made of urethane. Average Size wheels range from 50-55mm.50mm good for street cause their light, 55mm good for vert cause their smother and faster. Bigger wheel tends to have more wheel bite (when the wheel touches the bottom stopping you from moving.)
Bearings-The metal wheel things that you put inside the wheel hole . remember to put the rubber shield facing the outside and the other side with no rubber shield facing the inner part of wheel. The slower bearing for beginners is Abec 1-3. Faster bearing are the abec 5-9, some company don’t have abec system like bones bearing. All bearing should fit all regular skate wheel.
