The cat lies asleep on the sofa,
As she has been doing all day,
Ears twitch and claws flex,
Dreaming her life away.

And out of the dreams of mice,
Birds, and a life of crime,
Comes an ancient memory recalled,
Almost forgotten with time.

A kitten finds a warm place to hide,
Away from all the humans and dogs,
A place to lie and think about the world,
Fully of surprises, loud noises and frogs.

The place is quiet and cozy,
So the kitten settles down to sleep,
But the peace is soon broken,
By a rumbling sound down deep.

The noise becomes louder,
Paws become wet,
A terrified kitten,
Bewildered by this new threat.

Then the ground starts to move,
Slowly at first but increasing in speed,
The creature is tossed around,
Like a cowboy on a wild steed.

Dizzy, dazed, and stunned by fright,
The kitten opens her mouth to mew,
But warm, foul water rushes in,
With a taste not unlike peach shampoo.

Suddenly the roaring stops,
The clothes and the water lie still,
The door opens and hands reach in,
Grabbing the cat like a hound at a kill.

A scream and a shout,
The household comes running,
A shivering kitten...

She awakens with a start,
There is something buzzing nearby,
All horrors of her sleep forgotten,
Replaced by the new sound up high.
