Aircheck Tracker

Russell Henton wrote to AIRCHECK in September 2005 and asked: 'For years now I have been trying to find out any news of Johnny Kennedy, he used to be a well loved presenter on Liverpool's 194 Radio City. You will find pictures Johnny that I sent to the Brian Jones Radio City Website.'

Profile: Johnny Kennedy: Johnny is a North West radio legend.  A former teacher, he trained at Sheffield University and Scawsby College, also in Yorkshire, and can recite the life and work of The Bard, William Shakespeare, exceedingly well, having been awarded a BA with Honours in Shakespearean studies.

A former Whitbread Radio Personality of the Year award winner on no fewer than three occasions, he is renowned for carrying out radio wind-ups.  One of the most famous of these was 194 Radio City's ''Bride Of The Week' in which Johnny would make a phone call to an unsuspecting bride-to-be, just a day before the big day to tell them how things had gone so terribly wrong with wedding plans.   No one used to suspect a thing because Johnny always disguised his voice with many strange voices and accents.  So popular was this feature that some of best classic phone calls were put on sale on cassette locally.  The compilation sat high on top of the 'Comedy Charts' for six weeks.

A man of many talents, the Freshfield resident is not just a radio presenter.  He can also perform as a comedian - winning ATV's New Faces talent show and appearing in the final series of Granada TV's long-running, laugh-a-minute show 'The Comedians' .  He's a trained opera singer - maintaining his Shakespearean connections, he once sang as a tenor at a Concert celebrating the life of the literary legend.  Johnny has also graced the stage of the Liverpool Empire Theatre, the Royal Festival Hall and also the London Palladium.   Johnny is also popular as a speaker on the local after-dinner circuit.

A keen charity worker, he regularly runs in regional and national marathons, and has raised substantial sums of cash for charities both in the UK and abroad.  His services to charity saw him rewarded with a Gold Medal 'for services to the community' by the Liverpool Echo.

Whereabouts:  Last known to be working for an unknown radio station somewhere in Wales, the legend that is JK JD, returned to the airwaves at Southport's 107.9 Dune FM as of September 4th 2005 presenting 'The Johnny Kennedy Experience'. His show airs from 09:00-12:00.  Listen on-line at www.dunefm.co.uk.
