Profile: Mark Flanagan: Mark's radio career began in 1982 with Radio Aire. He reported for the Leeds-based station from around West Yorkshire. He them moved to Hampshire's Ocean-FM as both presenter and News Editor. He also spent time as Programme Controller for Southern-FM in Brighton, East Sussex and then Managing Director of Fox-FM in Oxford.
In 1998 he joined Chrysalis Radio
and in 2000, took up the post of Operations Director to oversee the Heart (100.7
Birmingham & 106.2 London) and Galaxy (various) brands.
Whereabouts: In October 2002, Chrysalis appointed Mark as Managing
Director for the LBC and News Direct radio stations in London, which it had just
acquired from a consortium of GWR, ITN, Reuters and DMGT.
Speaking of his appointment, Mark said: "This is biggest challenge of my
career and I am relishing the task of making the new LBC the most talked-about
station in London. There's a real gap in the capital for a populist, accessible,
talk station on FM and the planned switch of LBC to the FM waveband gives us a
fantastic opportunity."
Phil Riley, Chrysalis Radio's Chief Executive added: "It gives me great
pleasure to find such a perfect candidate from within our existing management
team. Mark's extensive radio background undoubtedly makes him the best man to
restore this heritage station back into a real talking point for Londoners
again".
