Helpless
back
Life passes us by.
We fall into the rhythm
And sometimes lose sight of what is important to us.
We let life's details and formalities engulf us
And we often forget what it feels like to feel.

Then tragedy strikes.
Numbness is soon replaced by overwhelming emotion
Some emotions we didn't even know we had.
As the reality of existence sinks in
We desperately cling to every ounce of power we have.

It is in those times when we are forced to acknowledge that we have no control.
We are forced to give up the simple answers of the fast paced life
And we give in to our creator.
We realize that no organization or material status really has an effect in the long run
And we feel hopeless.
We feel helpless.

Man inherently likes to feel on top of things.
Human nature is to rationalize and evaluate.
And when man can no longer do that,
Helplessness is the only conceivable emotion.
When no other solution is made clear
We try and take things into our own hands.
We pretend that no matter how bad things get
We can still have control.
We can be aggressors; we can be the proactive ones

And so, we fumble for the right words to say.
We wobble about trying to restore order.
We somehow manage to make ourselves believe that we can save the world.
Man does have power and control.
Man needs to think he has power and control.
But he really doesn't.
