Jake smiled as the giant silver ball came to view. It was a sight she remembered so vividly from her childhood. When she was six she had gone with her father over Christmas vacation. Her mother had been filming a movie that was said to be promising. So, she and her father were spending quality time together, and of course with her favorite Disney characters. "Jacqui, honey...I said, do you want chips or licorice?" Natalie asked, snapping her out of her daydream. "Oh, sorry, um, I'll have the twizzlers, thanks." "Jacque, we really gotta find you a man, he'd do you so good." Karen piped in from the back. "Shut up." Jake said, trying to smack her from the passenger seat. "Seriously though, all the years that I've known you, I've never once seen you in a serious or long relationship." Natalie replied, concentrating on the winding road that would at some point lead to the park. "Wait, wasn't there that guy, Justin? You liked him, right?" Jennie asked. Jake rolled her eyes at her friends. "Please, that was only three dates. Okay, so maybe that was my longest relationship in the past two years of college, but I've been in a really serious one. Besides, I only stayed with Justin that long because of his eyes. So blue and deep, I just have this thing for blues!" Jake said, sighing to herself while a quick, far away image of Hamilton entered her mind. "Okay Jacque, whatever you say." Natalie teased. "You guys are so disgusting some times. Can we lay of my pathetic love life and have some fun?" she replied, trying to be optimistic as they entered the huge parking lot. They all got out of the car, stretching their legs from the long drive. Now, each one armed with a backpack, they started to make their way towards the park. Jake smiled as she read the word 'Epcot' shining brightly on top of that ball. "I can't believe we're here again! My little sister is so mad that I'm here without her." Karen said. "I still don't fully understand why we came. I mean, we're twenty years old, in college and yet this place just keeps calling us back." Jennie remarked thoughtfully. They all waited in line patiently to get their tickets and entered the park. Jake loved her friends; they had helped her make the lonely transition into college so much easier. Now, the four of them headed to wait on the long line for their first choice of rides. The rest of the day was spent shrieking, laughing and having a blast at all the exhibits and rides. Jake, who was currently majoring in medicine, loved the 'Body Wars' ride and the 'Cranium Command'. While all of the girls were having the time of there lives belly dancing with the Moroccan girls at the Moroccan exhibit. By nighttime, they were all happily fed and ready to explore the park's nightlife. Having scoped out three hot guys, Natalie, Karen and Jennie were all walking and talking with them flirtatiously. Jake strolled almost separated from them in deep thought. She looked down at the ground, which was magically lit by thousands of twinkling lights beneath the cement. Jake cast her gaze around her. Couples of all ages were strolling hand in hand. Husbands and wives surrounded by their happy, laughing children. The place was enchanting and magical. It seemed everyone around her was in love or with someone special to them... not Jake. She couldn't remember a time when she had felt more alone. There, in a place where nothing should go wrong she felt lonely and sad. 'I never felt like this with Hamilton.' she thought to herself. 'No, Jake, do NOT think about him! You promised yourself to get over him the day he told you that you had to leave.' she chided herself, remembering the day after graduation. He had promised her forever that their love was his first priority. She thought they'd get married, have kids... lead the perfect life... but Hamilton apparently had not felt the same way. After graduation he told her he was going to college in Utah to become a doctor. He said it was his dream, that photography was just his hobby. 'We were going to go to college in New York together, he was going to be a photographer. Our life was all planned out.' she thought. 'What the hell is there in Utah? I still don't understand why he did that to me. We could have at least tried the long distance thing.' Instead he just said 'I love you, but it has to be over' and that he couldn't explain it. Jake was now depressed. She had forced herself to forget him, because it hurt too much...because she knew she still loved him. That was how the past few years had been. With small occurrences in the day that reminded her of her destiny, only to have her push them aside and fight what she felt. Now, watching all the happy couples and families, Jake felt alone. Looking around, Jake couldn't find her friends and their 'guys' anywhere. She was about to go look for them when she heard a loud boom. As she turned toward the lake of Epcot, she remembered that at 10:30 they were scheduled to have a laser light show that was supposedly spectacular. Glancing at her watch she wasn't surprised to find that it was 10:30. Jake walked closer to the lake to watch this phenomenon by herself as the fireworks started. They took her breath away, beautifully lighting the sky with every color Jake could imagine. From across the lake, the buildings lit up, making the glow so bright it felt like daytime. Next to Jake, a little boy started screaming, holding his ears in response to the loud noise. He started pushing her to find his parent. 'Why don't parents ever watch their kids?' she thought in annoyance. As she stepped back she tripped on a man behind her. 'Great, good going Jake, just cause a huge massive scene and ruin the experience for everyone.' "Are you okay?" the man asked her with unfeigned concern. "Uh, yeah, I'm fine." Jake said, rubbing her knee where she had gotten a tiny scrape. The man bent down and offered his muscular arm to help her up. Jake took it thankfully. As she stood up, she caught his eye. 'Lord, he has the most gorgeous baby blues I've ever seen! He looks just like…' "Jake?!" the man asked, looking deep into her dark green endless eyes. "Hamilton!" she shouted and flung her arms around his body, which was now even more sculpted and built then it had been in high school. "I can't believe it's you!" she replied into his shoulder. Hamilton just stood there, holding her. He didn't even remember what made him decide to leave her. But now, having her in his arms again, he knew he couldn't lose her again. He felt like a lost child returning home. "Jake, I'm so sorry." he said, not knowing how else to tell her how he really felt. Emotions were swelling up inside him. 'How could I have let her go? We were soul mates. We had our future planned out. I loved her. Oh my god. I remember that feeling, that unbelievable feeling being in love. It was a feeling that made me want to fly. To take her in my arms and shout out to the whole world that she was mine. "Hamilton." she said, letting that one word escape from her mouth. 'It feels so amazing to say that word again. That one word that used to change everything and make anything okay.' At that moment she kissed him. The reasons didn't matter anymore. All that mattered was him being in her arms, the way it had been for so long before he let go. Their kiss was accentuated with the fireworks. It was long and powerful, expressing to each other exactly how they felt, because they knew they both felt the exact same way. "I'm so sorry." Hamilton repeated. "Hamilton. It doesn’t matter." she said, kissing him lightly on the lips. "Jake, I followed the part of my dream that I thought was important to me, but I'm an idiot. I forgot the most important part…the part about 'I love you'." Jake was now crying shamelessly. "Yeah, that would be the part." she said, kissing him with all the love and passion that she had tried so hard to keep bottled up since they were last together. Now, him telling her that he loved her felt as good as the first time. That first time on the docks when they confessed their love, it was just like that. Because both Jake and Hamilton knew that this really was their first time. It was the first day of the rest of their lives together. Picked up right where it left off. ~The End~ |
