Jake and Hamilton lay on Jake's bed for their last night together. They had called Hamilton's parents who were pleased to hear he 'had come to his senses'. Now, having packed up all his new things from New York, he held Jake silently and stroked her hair. He didn't think he'd be able to get through tomorrow's departure. "Jake, we can do this. Our love is strong enough." Hamilton said, reassuring both Jake and himself. "I know, but I'm going to miss you so much. What am I going to do here, enroll to another school? God, well, at least my Mom seems to understand me a little more. I miss Bella. Oh Hamilton, I knew this would happen some time but I don't think I can go through with it. Do we even know when we'll see each other again? This is so unfair. I love you." she said, finishing in a whisper. She turned over so that she was sitting on Hamilton who was lying on his back. She kissed him. It was like fireworks had exploded, they were kissing for all the times they'd miss each other's kisses in the future. Kissing, not knowing when their next kisses would be. Hamilton moved his hands to her face and held it in his hands like a precious diamond. Occasionally he'd move his hands to her body, feeling her back and torso. They'd both miss each other uncontrollably. Best friends, soul mates. Finally, Hamilton broke the passion and fire apart. "Are we ready to go farther, Jake?" he asked slightly out of breath but with love and concern. Inside, desire was burning and he wasn't sure how Jake felt about what might be about to happen. He wanted to wait for a special time, a time where it would mean more. But if she was ready… "Hamilton, I want to, I really want to but I don't want it to be just because we don't know when else we'll get the chance...I want it to be perfect, like you." she said, hoping he understood her feelings. Hamilton smiled at her. "You seriously read my mind." he said, kissing her lightly. She rested back into his embrace and lay there for a while, silently. The sound of his breathing was a relaxation to her. "Hamilton," she said after a while, "I promise you I'll wait to be with you again. No matter how long it takes. Whether it's in a month, a year, or five years I'll wait. Because you're the only one in the world for me. As cliché as it sounds, you complete me and that day I spent without you, I was broken inside." Jake said, turning her head to face him, waiting for a response. "I'm waiting for you too, Jake. I want to be with you forever, to be the old couple at the theater. You give me a reason to wake up in the morning and a reason to perfect myself. My goals are built around your perfection and beauty. No matter how long it takes, I'll never feel the same about another soul in the world, I'll always be waiting to hold you in my arms again." "God, I love you so much Ham, lots and lots and lots." "...and lots and lots." Hamilton added. "Don't forget those." Jake smiled, "Goodnight Hamilton, don't let go of me, okay?" "Goodnight, I love you." he said kissing her cheek softly. Together, they fell asleep to the sound of each other's breathing and hoping that they truly could wait for each other, that their hearts would survive the time and space apart...and yet, there in the bed, so close to each other, feeling each other's warmth, they knew it was possible. . . . Scout, Will and Bella were all seated around a booth at Friendly's. Scout was treating Will to a congratulations dinner. "Wow, man, I didn't think when we stole Ryder's car that day that you'd actually win. You are one genius boy." Scout said. "Yeah, like we didn't know that already." Bella added. "Thanks guys, here's to friends who helped us pull off that crazy stunt and getting my essay in on time." Will said, raising his coke in the air. "Now doesn't this sound familiar? Here's to conquering our feelings, regardless of the truth." Scout replied, giving Bella a kiss on the cheek. "I'm so happy for you guys." Will said. "...and you know, Scout, your dad denied it. Maybe it's not even true about you two." "Maybe, but I don't see how we can ever know." Scout said, not pleased with the changes in topic of conversation. "Well, we still have my mom, although I'm in no rush to talk to her again." Bella said, looking at Scout. "No, Bell, you don't have to go through with it. Besides, the outcome will be the same no matter what the truth is...we'll be together. So, what your mom says doesn't even affect us." Scout reassured her. Bella looked at Scout with love in her eyes. He always said the right thing. Seeing that Will was uncomfortable, she changed the subject. "We spoke to Jake and Ham the other day." "Oh, my god, really? How are they? What's happening?" Will asked interested. "He just spontaneously went with his feelings and they're happy, they're together. But they both know it's not realistic and something is going to change very soon. It's just a matter of time." Bella said. "That really sucks." Will said. "I wish there was something we could do." . . . The next morning, Jake and Hamilton woke up to the sound of Consuela dropping a pan in the kitchen. They took one look at each other and groaned. Jake said, "This day can't be happening." Hamilton squeezed her and kissed her on the lips. Jake made a sound and Hamilton asked with concern, "What is it?" "You have morning breath!" Jake said and pushed him out of bed. Hamilton made a puppy face and pouted his bottom lip. Everything felt so normal between them. No one would have ever guessed that later that day they'd be separated. After Hamilton had brushed his teeth he jumped back into bed where Jake was just laying staring at the ceiling and gave her a gigantic kiss. "God, I love you!" Hamilton said taking a breath. "I love you too...lots. We're going to figure something out, Ham. I need you, okay?" Jake said looking deep into his perfect blue eyes. "When do I have to leave?" Hamilton asked, laying his head on her stomach. "I dunno, I think in like two hours." she replied sadly. "Only 120 minutes left together…for now that is." Hamilton said. He picked up her shirt a little and kissed her tummy. Jake laughed. "NO! I'm ticklish!" she shrieked. "Oh really? And I never knew this? Well, now I know how to get things from you!" he said, starting to tickle her all over while she broke into a massive laughing attack. There was a knock on the door. Hamilton stopped tickling her and Jake calmed down a little. "Come in." she said. "Hi kids." Monica said, entering the room in her pink, silk pajamas. "I was just going to wake you two up, but from the sounds of things you're doing just fine on your own." she replied. 'Well I've had training.' Jake thought to herself, but not daring to say it out loud. "I'm so sorry guys but the limo will be here to pick you up in an hour and a half, Hamilton." Hamilton's grin straitened immediately. The words were beginning to sink in. He only had a sure one and a half hours left with Jake, the most perfect person in the world, the person who made him. The one who made him smile by just being her and the one who made him cry when he wasn't with her. She had become part of him and now the thought of losing her was just too much for him to handle. He had to think of a way to get her back at Rawley. It was just so hard; they had really pissed off his dad. Hamilton was slapped back into reality as Jake's mom left the room and Jake plopped back onto her pillow. "NO! This isn't happening Hamilton. I can't say goodbye again, I can't." she stated. Hamilton heard her tears choking up her voice. She needed to be held and be told that everything would be all right. But he couldn't tell her that, all he could do was hold her. So he did, he lay back down next to her and wrapped his arms around her waist. She felt so small, so insecure. He loved the feeling of being her prince, her warmth and her shelter. Jake started to cry. "Whatever happens, Hamilton, I love you. I'll never feel this way about anyone but you and whatever it takes, I swear we'll be together again." "Shhh. Jake, I love you too. If my father stays his stubborn self, I’ll come find you again. I did it once and I'll do it again, okay?" he said, stroking her hair. It was all he could do. If he told her they'd be together soon, his words would be empty and meaningless. All he could do was promise they'd be together again. Somehow, Jake managed to pick herself up and throw on a pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt. Hamilton put the clothes he came in over his boxers. Together, they gathered his things. As they left her room, Hamilton took one look back at it; her bed, a place where they had shared so many magical hours the past few days. They had been so close. He felt so connected to her just lying there. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath and closed the door behind him. They slowly walked to the kitchen where Consuela had prepared a nice light breakfast for them. Jake couldn't eat. Hamilton however, always could and he did. Jake looked into her mother's eyes as Hamilton ate his breakfast. She actually felt like her mother understood her. Love was an issue that she could relate to and it felt so good having her mother on her side, despite everything that had happened. . . . The buzzer in the front hall rang a piercing ring. Consuela jumped up to answer it. Thirty seconds later she returned. "The car is here, Jacqui." she said. Jake looked up, her lip began to quiver. Hamilton got up and opened up his knapsack. "Monica, I can't thank you enough for your hospitality and understanding. I hope you'll take care of Jake for me while we're apart." he said, trying to smile. "Here are some of the photos I promised you." He handed her a big envelope with some of his finest shots. Monica couldn't contain herself. She got up and gave Hamilton a hug. "Thank you, Hamilton, for being the great young man you are. Your parents raised you well. I will be in touch. Feel free to call here whenever you want, I know you will. I'll talk to your father this evening and make sure everything is all right. Jacqueline, you take Hamilton downstairs alright?" Monica said, looking deep into Jake's eyes, trying to give her some kind of mental support. Jake nodded and picked up one of Hamilton's bags. Hamilton took the other and put his arm around Jake's shoulders. "Bye." he said as they left her apartment. They waited for the elevator in silence. Once it came and they were on their way to the lobby, Hamilton spoke, "I wanna see a smile from you, gorgeous." Jake looked into his eyes with longing. "Please?" Hamilton whined. She finally smiled at him and he quickly snapped a picture of her with his camera he had been hiding behind his back. "No fair!" she said, grinning. The elevator dinged indicating their arrival. Jake's smile once again faded. They stepped out, still holding on to each other. Every step they took, they knew was one step closer to being apart. Benny was sitting in his usual position and looking at them knowingly. Hamilton looked out the glass doors at the black stretch limousine that Monica had arranged for. "Wow." he said, trying to keep the conversation simple. "Your mom really goes all out." But then he stopped. He saw Jake about to break down. He wanted to stay forever and hold her, be her prince. Dropping his bags to the floor he embraced her. "I won't say goodbye, okay Hamilton?" Jake said with her head on his shoulder. "I love you, Jake. Lots and lots and lots and lots. I'm calling you the minute I get home." he stated. She nodded. "I love you too, Munchie." Hamilton smiled. He wrapped his arms around Jake again, this time with force, lifting her up from her feet and swinging her around. "I LOVE YOU!" he shouted, as if to let the entire world know. Jake laughed and kissed him with all the emotion built up inside of her. They stood there in the old lobby, with Benny at his desk pretending not to watch, tears welling in his eyes, while they kissed. When they kissed, the world made sense. All the messed up things in their lives were dissolved by the perfection of their love. Finally, the kiss ended. Jake took Hamilton's hand and walked him outside. Benny, picked up the bags they had absent-mindedly left on the floor and brought them to the trunk of the limousine. They kissed again. "I love you." Jake said. "I love you too, beautiful. I'll talk to you in just a few hours. Be strong for me. I promise I'm waiting for you. I'm going to talk to my dad and I'll make things okay...I have to." Hamilton said, not even embarrassed that he had begun to cry. Jake kissed him lightly. "Lots and lots. Oh, and send my love to Bella." she reminded him as he got into the car. She was amazed at her bravery for being able to let him go like that; feeling an inner strength telling her it would be okay. "Love conquers all, right?" she told herself. She closed the door and stood on the curb crying. Hamilton looked at her through the tinted windows, crying as well. Finally, the limousine pulled away and Jake looked took a deep breath. She looked at the back window where she knew Hamilton's blue eyes were looking back at her. The car turned the corner and she walked back inside, uncertain of their future. |
