Scout and Will had walked through the woods to New Rawley where they hoped to find Bella in a decent state to share this bad news with her. They paused as they reached the flagpole.

"Hey, Scout?" Will said. "I'll meet up with you in a sec, I just wanna go home for a minute, is that okay? If you want you can tell Bella on your own."

"Oh, yeah, sure, man, is something up?" Scout said.

"Nope, I just have to see something at home, I'll meet up with you in a little while."

"Sure." Scout said confused as Will walked off.

Scout walked over to the gas station where Bella was inside doing her homework. "Hey, Bell." Scout said giving her a quick kiss on the lips.

"Hi." she said surprised. "I was just going to call you. There's something I want to talk to you about."

"Oh, that's good cause there's something I wanna talk about too. You can go first though." Scout replied.

"Okay." Bella said taking a deep breath. "It's about us."

   "Uh oh."

"No, no, it's not bad, I don't think. It's just that well, I want us to make sure that we're really sure about this...I mean us, before we get really serious. I mean, you know, there still is the major possibility that we're, you know...well, the whole incest thing and I just want to make sure we're willing to bypass all that."

"Are you?" Scout asked with fear in his eyes.

"I don't know. I mean, I know I love you, I do. But the truth is still the truth. It's too painful to ignore and too painful not to ignore." Bella stated.

Scout came over to her and wrapped his arms around her. "I know it is, Bell...the entire situation is so screwed up. But I can't pretend that these feelings don't exist because they do and they're way to strong to ignore. I love you.” he said.

"I love you too Scout. I just want you to sleep on it or something, that’s all. It's a big to risk, us being together. So... just think about it, okay? I'm leaving it up to you."

"Well, I don't even have to think twice, but if it'll make you feel better and more secure about my feelings I will."

"Thanks Scout, I love you." she replied, kissing him on the cheek. "So, what was the news you came to tell me." she asked, glad to change the subject.

"Oh, well, it's big. Maybe you should sit down."

   "Uh oh."

"Okay, here goes. This morning, Hamilton left New York to come back home. Just temporarily, you know to work something out with his dad and be realistic. It was so hard for him to leave Jake but he did. They're so strong, those two. Anyway, on the way he was in an accident, Bell." Scout said.

"Oh my God! No, he's okay isn't he?! I mean, he's not…God, how is Jake getting through this? Scout, is he ok?" she asked, worried.

"Well, he broke a leg and last I heard he had fallen into a coma."

"No. Oh no, we should go. We should be there for Jake, Scout. I'm sure she's just dying inside." Bella said, her hands starting to shake.

"Okay Bella, the Dean gave us his cell number so before we do anything big, lets see what's going on...alright? Will just went home to check up...or something."

   "Okay." Bella said.

Scout pulled her in for a hug. "Everything's going to be okay Bella." he said, making a conscious effort not to kiss her.

                     .             .            .

"Hamilton." Jake said, a huge smile spreading across her face at the site of his tired, yet vibrant blue eyes.

"Oh, Baby." he said weakly, "I just wanted to see you so badly. I'm so sorry I left you in New York, I never should have..."

"Shhhh." Jake said to Hamilton, walking over to him and kissing his cheek. When she moved Hamilton could see his parents behind her, his mother crying. Right away, he regretted saying that Jake was the only one he had wanted to see. But it was the truth. She had been so much more of a comfort to him then they had.

"You scared me bad, Hammie." Jake said. "Don't ever do that to us again."

"I'll try." he said smiling. "Hi Dad, hi Mom."

"Sweetie!" Kate said giving him a hug. "You just gave me about 20 more grey hairs! Oh...I love you so much." She said squeezing him.

   "I love you too, Mom."

   "Hamilton," Steve started.

Jake took this as her cue to leave. Hamilton wanted to tell her to stay and hold his hand, be with him when he had to finally stand up to his father...but he didn't. 'I can be strong.' he thought.

"Hamilton, I'm so sorry.  I never meant to drive you away; I never meant to pull out of your life. I was selfish and I forgot about being your father when you needed me. I drove you away and..." Steve started to cry.

Hamilton had never seen his father cry before. He had always been so stiff, stern and rigid. Now, seeing his own father cry hurt him. He didn't want to be the cause of his father's first emotional breakdown.

"Dad, it's okay, I forgive you." Hamilton said, not sure of what he should be saying at all.

"No, Hamilton, it's not excusable. I want to get to know you the way your mom does..." Hamilton smiled. "...and, I want to get to know Jacqueline. She means so much to you, she's such a big part of your life, which makes her part of ours. As soon as you're out of here, she's coming back...to Rawley girls."

"OH MY GOD! Are you serious? Thank you so much, Dad...and mom. This really means so much to me."

"Hamilton, I want you to know that I love you. You're my only son and you mean too much to your mother and I to let you go over something this small." Steve said.

"I love you too Sweetie, don't ever do that to me again. Do you have any idea how worried I was?!" Kate said giving him a hug.

"I love you Mom. I'm sorry for scaring you. I just had to do what I knew I had to. Can we tell Jake now?"

Kate called Jake back into the room. Hamilton was smiling.

   "You're coming back!"

"Ahhhhh! For real?" Jake shrieked. Hamilton nodded. "Oh my god! Thank you so much Mr. And Mrs. Flemming. You've made the right decision." she said throwing her arms around Kate. Then, realizing what she had just done, said "Oh, sorry." laughing a little. Finally, she turned to Hamilton. "Ham!" she ran to him and gave him the biggest hug possible on a hospital bed.

   "I love you, Jake."

"I love you too." she said.

Steve and Kate looked at each other, smiled and walked out of the room together. "So, this is why Hamilton has been so happy. We made the right decision, Kate." Steve said to Kate as they walked out.

                     .             .            .

Dr. Mathews approached Mr. and Mrs. Flemming in the waiting room. "Mr. And Mrs. Flemming, I am so please with Hamilton's progress. His leg is healing perfectly."

"Oh wow, that's wonderful Doctor. When will he be able to come home?" Kate asked.

"Actually, he can be released in a week if everything continues on this upward path."

"Thank you so much Doctor, for everything. I'm sorry we couldn't be here earlier." Steve replied.

"Not a problem, Mr. Flemming, he had that lovely young lady to keep him company. I've never seen two people that young, so in love. You raised a lovely young man."

"Thank you so much. We're just relieved that he's here right now."

                     .             .            .

Scout, Will and Bella were piled in the back of Scout's car, his personal driver bringing them closer and closer to their friends every minute.  As soon as they were settled, Will pulled out the wrinkled piece of paper with the Dean's number on it and they punched it into the car phone.

"Hello?" the Dean's familiar voice answered.

"Yes hi, this is Will Krudski, I'm sorry to bother you at a time like this but we just wanted to know how Hamilton was doing." Will began.

"Hello Mr. Krudski, it's a pleasure to hear from you. I am pleased to inform you that Hamilton has woken up from his coma and is doing just fine now. His leg is broken but he should be able to leave in about a week."

A huge smile gradually spread across Will's face as Steve spoke.

"What is it, what is it?" Scout and Bella whispered annoyingly.

"Thank you so much Sir. We're actually on our way to come see him, but it's a surprise." Will informed him.

"Well, that's very sweet, I'll put Jacqueline on the phone with you right now..."

"Hey guys!" Jake said, almost whispering. "I can't wait to see you, hospitals can get so boring!"

"We're just happy to hear that everyone's okay." Will said.

"Thank God, that’s all I can say. Hey, can I talk to Bell for a sec?" Jake asked.

   "Hey Jacque!" Bella said.

"Hey Bell, I need to ask you a huge favor." she said biting her lower lip.

   "Sure, anything, what's up?"

"Well, when I left the house I was totally in a hurry and I forgot that I was due. I'm on my period and completely without any form of protection. Do you think you could bring me something?"

   "Of course, pads or tampons?"

"Tampons please, you're the best, Bell. I can't wait to see you guys."

"Ok, we're on our way. We'll be there, uh, sometime...I dunno. Love ya, see you soon!" Bella said enthusiastically.

   "Love ya."

Scout and Will were snickering and making faces next to Bella.

"TAMPONS?" they both said at once.

"You guys, how old are you? I'm helping a friend in need. Besides we need to stop someplace anyway, shouldn't we bring him like balloons or flowers or something?"

"Of course, let's go." Scout said still smiling. "Freddie, could you please stop at the next convenient store you come across, we want to bring Hamilton something."

"Yes sir, of course." the young driver said.

Fifteen minutes later, the car was filled with five balloons along with flowers, chocolate, cards and teddy bears for Hamilton...and of course, Jake's tampons.

                     .             .            .

Jake was now lying on her stomach next to Hamilton on the small, stiff hospital bed. "I thought I lost you, Ham." she said, playing with his hair.

"I'm so sorry." Hamilton said. "But you're coming back now and it's all going to be perfect again, I promise."

"I love you, boy. Lots." she said, as they started to kiss.

There was a knock on the door just as the make-out session was getting heavy. Jake quickly sat up just as the Dean entered. "Oh...uh, hi dad." Hamilton said, a little flustered.

Steve cleared his throat. "Hi son...Jacqueline. I just wanted to share a bit of news with you. Dr. Mathew thinks you'll be able to leave in about a week."

"Oh wow, are you serious? A week, that's like nothing!" Hamilton said.

Jake, who'd already heard the news from Steve said, "We're going home, Munchie."

Just then, Will, Scout and Bella entered the room and shouting "SURPRISE!" They brought in the balloons along with the rest of the gifts.

Hamilton was stunned. "Oh my god, guys, you so didn't have to come." He said happily. "But I'm really glad you did" he replied as Will and Scout came over and slapped him five.

Jake was now off of Hamilton's bed, hugging Bella. "Thanks for coming, Bell."

"Oh course, silly. Anyway, here's what you asked for." she said, thrusting a brown paper bag at her.

Scout and Will started laughing but Hamilton sat there clueless. "Hammie, we'll be right back.  Have some guy...bonding time, okay?" Jake said, walking out of the room with Bella, in search of a much needed restroom.
