Anorexia
I learned of the idea of Anorexia from a newspaper. I'm not going into some long sad story about how evil that newspaper was. I don't remember the date, I don't remember the article; I don't even remember the newspaper's name. I learned of Anorexia, that's all.

Doesn't seem so bad when you read it in the newspaper, really, does it? You know what it's like. You flip through the pages, murder on page A1, robbery on A6, girl in critical condition due to self-starvation on page B11.... wait. Self-starvation? What the hell? ... as you flip back to B11
A fourteen year old girl was rushed into So-n-Such hospital due to extreme Anorexia. Anorexia Nervosa, which is severe self-starvation to lose excess amounts of weight, can be ultimately life-threatening.
 Isn't that how it usually sounds? That's how it's usually printed. Since we're being so usual in this, why don't I tell you what most peoples' usual reactions seem to be.

  • "Well jeaz. The girl's starving herself. What a spaz. Force-feed her some crisco, some mcdonalds, a bit of vegetable oil and she'll be a-okay in three or four days."
  • "Aww, the poor thing. Why doesn't someone give her some food?? At least she's in the hands of the state now, where she is safe. It'll all be all right as soon as she cries for a little while in her boyfriend's arms."
  • "What the fuck? Stupid bitch. Well, she went too far and now she's in the ER. She'll be embarrassed and fine in the morning and won't do it again."

Lots of people think that that's all there is to it. No more. Give them food, make them eat, and then the anorexia... goes away. Poof. All Better!

There are a TON of pro-anorexia sites out on the web. This relates to almost nothing on this page, but I wanted to write it here. Actually, I'd love if people would email me and tell me their opinion on pro-anorexia sites and arguments backing their opinions.
