| Not much is known about Robin's childhood. The series started out with him at around 6 or 7 years of age in the village of Loxley, the only home he knew. It was soon ripped away from him. The village was attacked by Normans, who burned it to the ground, killing people too. Alric, Robin's father, got away with Robin just in time. Taking him to a nearby mill - friends of theirs - Alric told them to hide the boy, he'll be back for him. But that was the last time he saw his father. Alric was trapped and killed by the Sheriff of Nottingham and his men. Robin grew up with the miller, his wife, and their son Much. The two became like brothers. Years later, Robin at around 19 yrs old, caught Much who had stolen his bow to shoot a deer in the forest. Obviously, that was poaching at the time and the two were caught by Sir Guy of Gisburne, taken to Nottingham, thrown in the dungeon where they met, unknowingly, the first of the outlaws to be - Will Scarlet, James and Dickon. Also - the old prisoner ,as everyone calls him, with his pet rat - Arthur. "Feet first, it's the only way" he repeated and appears in the series several times after, unfortunately always in the dungeon. But being so happy where he is, he and Arthur are always a source of comedy in the show. Back to Robin, Much, Will, Dickon and James. They made a daring escape out of Nottingham and fled to Sherwood - not after Robin met Marion in the castle - and there, in Sherwood, Robin finally met with Herne the Hunter who gave him a long bow, Albion - one of the seven swords of wayland and told him of his meaningful purpose. Robin of Loxley became Robin i' the hood - Herne's son, Robin of Sherwood. |
