As long as I have known my Uncle, all his cars that he has owned have been White. Guess what color the Camaro will be...White. There will be rally stripes, but the color hasn't been chosen yet (Roomer has it that it's my Aunts choice). After hours of paint samples, a Dupont white was chosen, without pearl. Any shade of pearl caused a slight yellowish tent to the paint. The body was send out with all its parts to be media blasted.
...Popcorn anyone? ..All body work was done with as little filler as possible. This meant hours of metal shaving and welding without warping the panels.
The Body is in primer here, but the underside has been painted. I will update next week when we get the finished product back. It was painted last night, and will be wet sanded for the rest of the week.
Pictures after paint. The body and panels were not painted together.
The body is off the rotisserie and I have started assembly
The stock cross member was modified by cutting the mount off the back and welding it onto the front
The motor and trans were test fitted (everything looks good). Now for the hard part I need to clean everything before final placement
Custom motor mounts had to be made in order to secure the LS1 on the frame. The motor was placed into position and all angles were measured for correct fit.
Motor mounts are built for the LS1 and the subframe has been cut for the air conditioning
I have welded 1/8" steel plate to fill the void and drilled and tapped holes for the motor mounts
Here is some pictures of the clutch mock up. The A steel plate has also been made for the master cylinder on the firewall. Linkage has been cut, tapped, and threaded for custom adjustments.
This is what the the pedal box looks like with all its modifications done. Notice the easy access for adjustments.
More hours had to go into the master cylinder bracket in order for it to line up right with the peddle angle and the fire wall. The booster and cylinder are from a corvette.
So you have heard people hype Bear brakes for the last few years. The fact of the matter is that they don't do the R&D that they say the do. Proof in case. The thirteen inch vented front, 12 inch rear vented rear was ordered. The complete kit was designed "In Theory" to bolt on and be a complete kit. From what I understand, it came with ten lug nuts (not a big deal), no E-Brake cables, and brackets for the rear brakes that don't clock in right. I think the problem was the big ford rear housing ends. After repeated phone calls, nothing was done to solve the problem. The answer then was to make his own custom brackets to put the rear calipers at the right degree. Here are the pictures to back up this gibberish.
Pictures of the front Brakes, dropped spindles, and wheels mocked up. The front spindles won't work with the rim and wheel combo, so they are being sent back for the stock ones. The tie rod wouldn't make it into the rim. Also minor A-arm grinding needed to be done in order to have full turning range.
Spacers are needed for the front and rear wheels to fit. the fronts have to be sent back now that the dropped spindles aren't going to be used. I think the new distance is a 1 1/4".
Another thing that was added was power windows and new glass. Figuring out how the window regulaters when it was took a few weeks. A new headliner was also put in.
