ashington, DCDC. This nations capital.......what can ya say...... the mentality of the people changes once you get inside the "beltway".... (grins). As soon as we got there, the generator on the bus overheated again....... now....we´re talking DC in July...... 97 degrees outside.... high humidity....... KILL THE BUS DRIVER!!! Anyway...I LOVED DC.... The sound guys, Jan Stuggi (John the Shadow in Icelandic) and Palli Borg (no, he didn't try to assimilate me), and I went for a little walk through DC... We did the tourista thing, visiting the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Big Fat Pervert's house (that´s the White House for those of you who are still Democrats).....We must have hiked 4 miles......we took a cab back to the crappy hotel (they had the most worthless staff and elevators ever...) We ended up in Georgetown at some Japanese restaurant where they cook at your table..... You wouldn't believe how easily entertained some people are by the simple act of flambéing stuff.... (FIRE! FIRE! YES!) As we sat around in the mall the restaurant was in, Biggi and I laughed over Dilbert comics....we seemed to be the only ones who understood the "Etch-a-Sketch as a laptop" gag.....everyone else was clueless........I guess that makes them "induhviduals".... Maybe Stephan and Siggi will be my domestic servants when the DNRC takes over...(laughs) The nightlife in DC is amazing.....people come in from all around the area and turn it into one big party town.... we ended up at some place that was in a rebuilt apartment house with 4 floors....an average jazz band played on the second floor....the third floor was quiet....and the guys got stoned on the fourth floor.....it ruled. So, anyway, the gig was the next night....we walked into the venue, the 9:30 Club, and I thought I died and went to Heaven.....this place is my all time favorite venue.....the stage is on wheels, and they move it forward and backward, depending on the anticipated audience...... the PA is on wheels, and moves with..... the lighting rig is on motorized rails, and moves with the stage, too. It also can be raised and lowered, eliminating the need for ladders..... the ceiling is 3 stories high...... Needless to say, I LOVED the place.....we were finished setting up in a half hour. Biggi, Steph, and I ended up in some sidewalk cafe, discussing the finer aspects of baseball ( a game they have never played) as we watched the Orioles on the tube.... The show rocked....I started wearing earplugs to save what´s left of my hearing....... it took 20 minutes to have everything torn down and loaded in the trailer...I LOVED that place.....
Technically Speaking
This was the first show where we FINALLY got the videoscreens to be where they were supposed to be.... on stage... The house had a nice lighting rig, most of which we covered up with backdrops, since we don't want light washing out the video. The way that 'Barry' was lit came together this day.... it's too complicated to explain here, so suffice to say it was cool..... Oh well....
Next stop...New Yawk!
