End Fest

Seattle, Washington

Seattle.

Sleepless in Seattle.... BAH. Forget that. Try ABANDONED in SEATTLE. We played some festival they have every year... Totally uneventful, other than the 2000 plus people who saw Gusgus play (our biggest crowd), and the girl who was an exact double of my sister in law's best friend... Doc, the house lighting guy, and I messed with her head all day... She had a cute little redhead friend... Marko has a weakness for redheads... Also, there wasn't a cloud in the sky... I thought it was suppose to rain in Seattle 24/7. After we tore our stuff down (I started during the last band, Sky Cries Mary, since I thought they SUCKED), I told Marko I was going to take a shower, since there was one at the venue. When I got out of the shower, the fuckin´bus was GONE. Not there. Missing. Oh shit, I thought to myself..... I´ve been ABANDONED!!! My briefcase was on the Gusgus bus..... with my wallet.... address book.... money.... everything. I was starting to freak, when I saw that The Offspring's bus was still there.... they played on another stage at the event, and were just finishing up loading their tractor trailer... So, I thumbed a ride to Oregon with them, since they were plating the same event we were.... Turns out that Bobby Lee, the Offspring´s tour manager, is an old friend of Marko's... So, there were a few familiar faces there..... We stopped to get something to eat, and I told their bus driver, Randall, to watch out for a silver bus dragging a white trailer, and cuss the driver, Dickie Fut (KILL THE BUS DRIVER!!!), if he saw them.... He told me about the two busses at the hotel he stayed at, and when I mentioned Lamb, he told me they had one of the busses..... I ran to a pay phone to call the hotel to make sure that the Gusgus bus was still there..... Luckily for the Gusgus guys, it was.... Ran back to the Offspring bus, to tell Randall the good news, and looked across the street...THERE THEY WERE! Steph was DJing at the hotel bar..... so they were going to be there a while... As I was about to run across the street to get back on MY bus, I took another look at the Offspring´s driver.....I asked him if he was based out of Louisiana.....He said he was....turns out that the Offspring´s bus driver is Randall Carpenter, an old buddy of mine from the Cardi´s days....he was Zebra´s lighting guy.....The guys on his bus didn't even KNOW they had the best lighting guy in Louisiana driving them around... Of course, I couldn't tell them this, since they have a rule about shop talk...
NO shop talk after midnight....
Sounds cool to me....
Can you say small world?

Technically Speaking

I want to thank Cowboy Mouth and Crystal Method for unwittingly being my focal points for position programming the Pearl that day...(laughs) The house had 8 I-Beams up, so we only added 6 of ours to make an interesting little setup... I thought it looked good...  4 on the top truss... 4 on the floor in the back.... 4 on cases in the back... and two up front... Since the house I-Beams couldn't accept DMX signal, once again, we were running 3 controllers... Fun.
Tomorrow...Portland....and Carla...
