OWNING EXOTIC REPTILES LEGALY IN AUSTRALIA

At the moment there are two ways you can legaly own or import an exotic reptile in Australia. The first way is to get a Private Zoo Licence, this is quite costly and there are obligations you have as a private zoo owner like being open to the public a certain amount of days per year. There are ways around the obligations though, like if you charge $500 per person admition no one is going to come are they? Also if you do not advertise then no one will even know of your zoo and there for never come to it. For information on Applying for a Private Zoo Licence contact your local Wild Life Authority or Wild Life Gaming and Licencing Commision.

The second way is to contact these following organisations, this may or may not work depending on each different situation. Importers of all live animals or animal or human products require approval of place for quarentine and must obtain a permit from the Australian Quarentine and Inspection Service p.h (03)92466777. Facilities to house Imported animals must be approved by the Wildlife Protection Authority p.h. (02)62500300.

Both methods require you to contact those above mentioned services and to go through all the red tape that goes with it.

If you have sucess with either of these methods contact me the email address provided on the contacts page.
